We all know that glowstone and pistons don't mix very well on the xbox. That makes having a usable rotating lighthouse almost impossible. Well not anymore! Here's an easy to follow tutorial (only 12 steps) on how to build a rotating lighthouse that doesn't affect the frame rate (no frame rate drop noticeable).
Here's what you're going to need. 24 sticky pistons, 24 repeaters, 24 glowstone, 28 redstone torches, and 40 redstone dust. That's not too bad!
Once you have your lighthouse built to the hight that you'd like, start with step one. Here's a quick one I built for demonstrative purposes.
Step 1. Start of by building this 6 x 6 square in the middle of your lighthouse.
Another easier to see view
Step 2. Add another layer of stone (or whatever block you're using) like so
Step 3. Next add some redstone torches.
Step 4. Add four block in the corners over other torches.
Step 5. Next add four blocks over center torches.
Step 6. Now build on to that center like so.
Step 7. Then add redstone.
Step 8. Extend by one more block like so.
Step 9. Next add repeaters. Numbers represent the amount of ticks on that repeater. ( 0, 1, 2, 3. 3 being the last tick on the repeater)
Step 10. Add the rest of repeaters to all the sides.
Step 11. Next add sticky pistons.
Step 12. Add glowstone to all sticky pistons.
This is what I have so far, side view.
Next I'm just going to fill in the rest of the lighthouse.
I went ahead and covered the pistons like so.
One last thing I recommend is adding black wool around the glowstone.
Place black wool on the inside right next to glowstone
Then place black wool on top of glowstone
The rest is up to you.
Here's how you turn it on.
(You don't have to power it on the same way I do. For example you can use a lever or a button on even a pressure plate.)
Basically you got to go back to the first layer we built in step 1.
Momentarily place down the redstone torch next to the redstone for about half a second and then remove it. This will power the circuit.
Here it is in action.
So anyways, this shouldn't cause any noticeable frame rate drop, it doesn't on my xbox.

Wow this is a really nice design! But does it jam at all? Some of my redstone circuits jam on the Xbox version...
I know what you mean about redstone torches burning out, luckily they don't burn out here. I've tested it many many times and haven't got it stuck yet.

Try changing ticks on your repeaters. My first door I had the same issue and it was caused by my close signal getting their to quick. Play around with the ticks on the repeaters going to the offending piston. Hope this helps

Almost works. It only goes around one time, then it stops. It doesn't repeat. Followed it too the letter so I'm not sure if it's me or the design. Any suggestions?

When you go to power it place the redstone torch down for a slit second then remove it.
Place redstone torch right next to redstone dust.
In this next picture you can see how a part of the circuit is off while the majority of it is on.
Next challenge: Try making one with 2 layers of glowstone instead of 1... :3
Actually that's what I built in the first place, two layers of glowstone (making it 48 glowstone), one retracting downwards and one upwards. The second I powered it the frame rate dropped through the floor. So unfortunately we're stuck with this design for now.
Atomic, your brilliant. I just did a practice run on the mechanism and it's working perfectlly! No lag at all, thanks for responding so quickly. Well I guess it's time to build the structure now.
One more question. How do I implement an on/off lever or button because when I try, it only turns it on and off once then it won't turn on again unless I break the circuit to reset it.

YES! That one makes your frame rate drop through the floor.

You shouldn't build the exact copy, like you said wool might catch fire from lighting. The main focus is the rotating lighthouse, not the outer shell.

All you would have to do is put a stone block on top, or some other nonflammable block. Lightning only strikes straight up and down.
