Did anyone try building a zipper elevator (that uses stairs attached to pistons to push you upward)?
I built one (plenty of videos on youtube) and it worked perfectly. It was fast and worked the first two tries without flaw.
But then it stopped working. It just froze up. The two torches at the very bottom, the only two torches that aren't attached to a wall, they both burn out and the elevator does nothing. Only way they come back is to replace them with new ones. But all it does is burn out the new torches.
The fast piston elevator doesn't work. And neither does the spiral staircase elevator. The pistons push right thru the player and you either get stuck or fall to the ground floor.

Ugh.
I had the same problem. I had to tear them both down (very sad making) and instead adapted a double vertical piston extender to work four together under a 4x4 water elevator I designed, which alternates one layer of water to one layer of air. Makes swimming up faster.
Still wish the elevators had worked. You say you tried the spiral elevator as well? Was it ?
The torches burning out is probably a bug, it happens to me all the time. That or I end up getting magically powered redstone dust. The lines fix themselves when any update happens though. When torches burn out/don't invert you have to replace them for some reason. I've had this problem with every complex circuit I have made. Now I just make contraptions/components and wait for a patch to fix the redstone before I actually put them to full use.
So is it a consensus yet that there is something wrong with xbox edition's pistons?
Or am I just a crappy builder who doesn't know how to adjust circuit timings properly?
I've built a bunch of piston stuff and slowly operating things like doors and such work just fine.
But the quick stuff where split-second timing is critical (such as the vertical piston elevator), the pistons just are awful.
I set up a 1-tick clock repeater and tied it to pistons (to try the sand/gravel duplication bug from the PC which has apparently been fixed). Visually, the clock looks like it's running at about 10 ticks (it's just two repeaters set in a loop configuration and it needs to be started with a pulse generator. However, the piston operation makes it clear the 1-tick clock IS working properly. However, again, visually, the piston operation is almost comical. It's as if 4J only has two states - either the piston is retracted, or it is extended. In between the piston literally disappears. And when you have six pistons going all at once on a 1-tick clock... the graphics look horrid.
I dunno. I just wish 4J would make a statement or something. I'm very frustrated with xbox minecraft.
I've been having a lot of issues with redstone torches burning out for no reason. It'll work first dozen times or so and then randomly burn out. Drives me nuts.

There is definitely a problem with pistons, I've had them "jam" on me several times. I didn't even know a 1-clock was possible with how unstable redstone is in MCXBLA. I've never even tried making one, don't really have a use for a clock that insanely fast. I usually use a 3 tick with a repeater and torch, not too fast for shift registers (1-clock might work now that I think about it...) and makes it simple to toggle on/off. All you need is a lever.

Was trying to build one...
