Hi guys, long time lurker finally decided to sign up since I need help.
First off, let me please do my sucking up and mention that from my daily readings, this forum is amazing. The builds I've seen and the storytelling in the Screenshots forum are outstanding.
Anyways, I followed instructions on building a mob grinder (Kiershars Practical), with one minor modification. Please note I'm a MC noob in general as my laptops graphic card doesn't support OpenGL 2.0 (thanks Toshiba!). The modification was a longer end tunnel that the mobs have to travel down as I was connecting the grinder to a prebuilt structure underground. Followed the same steps for placing water every six (seven?) blocks (with a transparent block at the end) to ensure the mobs keep on moving.
My problem is, the mobs just stop six blocks before the grinder (except zombies, who push whoevers in their way forward to their certain death). Can anyone suggest something to remedy this. I attached a screenshot for reference.
could you take a picture of where they are getting stuck at? I am assuming that it is where the creeper is.
Sure thing. To avoid taking mine apart at the moment, I grabbed a screenshot off of the Kiershar video to show. It is the exact same interchange as my grinder.
They get stuck at the sign location.
It doesn't always happen, but it is very frustrating. Whenever a spider or zombie comes through, I get the holy grail of loot as they push any bystanders into the lava blade.
from the looks of it i would say they are stopping at the limits of one stretch of water before the next batch of source blocks. I have found source blocks can be annoying in directionality if they have more than 1 way they could go so when i have done water channels i find your best bet is to step down the water, so at the end of the maximum, 8 block, stretch of water place the next set of source blocks 1 layer down, they will get pushed over the lip in to this, then rinse and repeat.
if this is what you have done i do apologise the picture just gives me the impression it is all 1 level.
ETA: Hmm dry blocks in the middle of a water trap with lava blade, cant say i have seen that.
To have no dead zones in your water channels do something like this (just did it on pc cause its faster and easier for screens)
Step 1: The picture says it all, place signs over your channel like so (if you have a 3 wide channel you would put a sign on top of the previous sign)
Step 2: Dig down 1 block underneath where you signs are.
Step 3: Dig out the other blocks next to those away from the water and place stairs or halfslabs.
Step 4: Dig out the blocks in front of the signs that have the water flowing, making the water flow under the signs.
Step 5: Place water sources above the stairs. This will link up with the water down one block and create a constant flow with no dead zones. Current carries on pushing mobs up the stairs (or halfslabs)

Thanks! Sorry for the long winded post haha.

Wow thank you, that's extremely helpful. Will get to implementing this sometime tomorrow evening. Thanks!
