I just saw the skins free skins for summer of arcade. I like those. Still on the fence for Pack 1. If I get it, it will be for the 5 or 6 MC skins. Personally I like the idea of running around as a squid. Can't wait to see what the next packs have. Still waiting for a pirate skin.
Edit: Just checked. The MC skins were not the ones unlocked. Very clever, Microsoft.
I dont get this copyright bull.surely you cant claim copyright over different coloured blocks assembled together that happen to look like or represent a character.A skin creator is just giving the user the tools to do with as they wish. Are microsoft liable to be sued by nintendo because i have a huge mario looking character in my world,i dont think so,there is no difference to me between creating a massive kratos in my minecraft world or changing the colour combination of my steve to resemble kratos.Whatever way you look at it if thats how copyright works than microsoft have already given us the tools to infringe copyright by giving us minecraft. If i cannot be sued for making a mario in my world then why would microsoft be liable if they made a skin creator?Microsoft themselves will not be going against the copyright but will instead give us the means to do so.Like third party sites that provide you with links to movies and things, that site is not liable for any copyright infringment as they mearly provide the ability to do so and do not promote any illegal activity. If you create your own skin you havent really copied anything as its you own creation made by you from scratch it may be inspired by a character but its not a direct copy.Microsoft just want thier money, they will release skins packs for days without any decent characters as they may be breaking copyright by making money from a skin that resembles a character but giving users the tools to do so doesnt make microsoft liable.Black ops emblem maker!!! The amount of charcters and logos that are copyrighted that people had as emblems was ridiculous.Anyone get sued??
What if some shithead makes a nude skin? thats against TOS and a lot of the people playing are under like 13
As far as the "nude" issue goes. Couldn't they just start ever avatar out wearing underpants or a bikini. You can change the color of the undergarment to match whatever you're trying to paint over it. And just leave certain "areas" uneditable? Just a thought.

The reason some people get lost in thought is because it's unfamiliar territory.
First off:
As someone said above Microsoft and 4J could very well be sued. 4J had to go around getting the rights to make these skins, the reason we got skins like Halo so quickly was because 343 (Microsoft) owns the rights to Halo now and I do believe Lionhead is a Microsoft company as well (but I could very well be wrong)
It's as 4J tweeted (which I'm not going to dig around for) and the rough quote is "We're looking into making a skin editor but there's problems..." (The rest I remember cause it made me laught) "... that get lawyers all excited"
Secondly
It can violate Microsofts terms of service. Why do you think they censore signs? It's so Minecraft: Xbox 360 Edition can be readily available for the family, (ie, so little Timmy can play Minecraft without little Timmys parents being angry about the F word being on a sign or some man in nothing but his boxers running around) and therefore, increase profits (at least that's what I think)
Thirdly:
It's only 2 bucks. Seriously. Im living paycheck to paycheck. I'll be saving all year to be able to afford Halo 4, the new Gears, and the like later this year and the 2 dollar skin pack is no problem for me to buy. Hell, even with all the skin packs that's still only 8 dollars (and what, like 160+ different skins) The only way this could ever be a problem is if you dont have a credit card with Microsoft and you have to buy 1600 point cards. But then treat yourself to a new game too! (I'd recommend Monday Night Combat )
If you guys think copyright couldn't possibly be an issue, you're free to argue with 4J and/or their lawyers on twitter.
Any system involving letting users create their own custom skin will likely include some kind of screening process or moderation.
