A while back on youtube I saw a video showing a rather unique water to generate smooth stone in an automatic generator. I decided to try it on the PC and it worked with no problems.
I was excited about making this same generator on my 360 world as its faster and safer than my cobblestone generator.
However....
To generate smooth stone, you need to pass water under lava. The generator I built was designed for just that purpose and to use pistons as a separator and a way to dispense the newly made raw element.
In the 360 version of the game running water under lava does not generate smooth stone. The lava eats the water.
I hope the Dev's at 4J use these forums to find bugs posted by users to fix them in future patches/updates.
You did it wrong then, have the water there before the lava

Religion, has actually convinced people, that there's an invisible man, living in the sky, who watches everything you do every minute of the day, and the invisible man has a special list. Of 10 things he doesn't want you to do. And if you do ANY of these ten things he has a special place, full of fire, and smoke, and burning, and torture, and will send you there to suffer and choke and scream for all of eternity... But he still loves you.
I've seen one of these vids. moving water on bottom, lava came in over top. Agree with Guy.
The vid I saw was running 1.7, perhaps this was removed 1.7.3?
Either way, I also tried it as a smooth stone making scheme. I'm currently refacing some towers and could really use this, as I'm running thru coal at a pathetic rate.
There was a thread about this yesterday. Same MO. Doesn't work. If someone does figure out how to get it working on xbox by all means speak up.
I'll take a break from my resurfacing just to try this one more time, experiment.

Seatbelts are not as confining as Wheelchairs. Buckle up.
The only thing I can think of off the top of my head is that this method exploits a bug in the PC version that's not present in the Xbox game.
Also, and you can call me dumb if you want, but even if you create smoothstone, doesn't it turn into cobblestone if you mine it? I mean, there's no creative mode in the Xbox game.

Is it a chicken or is it a duck? - It's a chuck, because dicken sounds stupid.

Even if it did work, we wouldn't be able to mine the smooth stone until we get the Silk Touch enchantment (later update obviously).
But in the mean time it would still benefit me because I can get cobblestone faster from Smooth Stone instead of Cobblestone in general.
Again, I hope the 4J Dev's come to these forums to find bugs people find and post about. (Such as this).
If they dont, or if someone knows where to report bugs to 4J, please leave a link.
Went on a video hunt, duplicated several variations except one crazy one that involves a lot of pistons and sends smooth stone skyward. I cann't fly so nix that.
Also tried a bunch of pointless variations. All info(text) points to it not being add till after 1.73(enchanting), yet one vid clear stated 1.7
Seems like lava predominates the water and is not on equal footing. Try lava on water, water on lava. Different flows, flow heights, multiply source blocks, even materials surrounding it(sniffs at smooth stone)
It just seem to not be an xbox feature. Why worry about it if there's no silk touch enchanting? I'd use pistons to build a wall. Badly needed walls. And while coal is in abundance still, I go through an amazing amount of coal. Plus the advatange of building walls right on site rather then mining a bunch of stone and smelting back into smooth.
If anyone figures it out, children will sings songs of your gamer tag.

4J visits the forum regularly. That's who 4JSteve and 4JStu are.
Unlike the PC, where any kind of water hitting lava will produce cobble, the Xbox does not accept ALL variations of lava hitting water and water hitting lava, in fact, only a few are accepted on the Xbox. The variation for creating smoothstone may not exist yet.

I'm going with this guy and the Cat. I do not believe it is a bug.

Please watch this and tell me what you would change so I may remodel the contraption to do its job correctly.
Thanks!

Retired StaffEvery time someone brings up a smooth stone generator, there is also someone who tries to say it's pointless.
Nope, smooth stone generators worked long before 1.7.3. It should work in the Xbox version but it doesn't seem to.
But in the mean time it would still benefit me because I can get cobblestone faster from Smooth Stone instead of Cobblestone in general.

Also, there is a dedicated bug thread for reporting bugs. Most people don't seem to really use it anymore, but it's there.

which are presumably not right where he wants to build with them, which was his point.
