Ok I decided to build a portal and go to the nether. Well things really didn't go as planned. Oh I went to the nether, but I am in a cave that has no exit. I have dug up some,but only ran into bed rock. According to the map it says the portal is at Y:68. In overworld that is either near the surface or at the surface.
I have seen other people in the nether and really don't want to get a lava bath. I have tried to reset it by changing where my portal is, but that seems not to work.
It works great against ghast and stuff, well not to sure about that got it on peaceful atm
I'm not sure if you understand what the nether is. The nether is another "relm" if you will. Not part of the same world you are in when you start the game. So technically its not a cave. and there is no way out other than back through a portal to the real world.
apparently what I saw in several videos isn't what I am getting. I see no lava or any of the things others have shown. All I see is netherrack.
I even took it off peaceful and nothing changed. It now has created a random portal outside my mine where the first portal was started.
The cave of netherrack I speak of is as high as the portal and was about the size of a 6 by 20 room. I had to dig the rest out. wheres the rest? Is my nether just netherrack and nothing else?
Oh and the random portal thing I heard was a bug? At least that is what one video said

Are you saying you dug out the entire nether?
IF NOT
Start digging a staircase down. If you went up and hit bedrock, then you're at the top. The nether is 1/3 the size of the overworld, and comprised mainly of netherrack, if I remember correctly. I would guess that much like the overworld, lava is found primarily at the lower levels. The only other thing to find in the nether is soul sand, and I haven't found much of that. And I think the 360 version of the nether is enclosed in bedrock on all sides, so you'll know if reach an end.
Your nether isn't just netherrack. Your portal is just under the surface of your nether. You need to dig up. if you hit lava, block it off, move and dig up again. If you keep getting lava coming down, your whole portal room is covered by a lava pool and you need to dig a passage and keep trying outside of the original room
If you can get a friend on the server, you can disable the portal while inside the nether with a bucket of lava or by destroying one of the obsidian blocks then get your friend to go through the portal from the normal minecraft world to make it spawn in a different place. Either that or go in, disable the portal then kill yourself and re-enter the nether.
Ah ha, you have a problem. Let me tell you something i learned about portals in the MCXB edition. When you make your first portal in the overworld, it will stay there. When you go to the nether, that portal will not move. If broken, it will spawn a new portal right next to the broken one. You can't move your overworld portal, or a new one will spawn right near the old one.
if you dig up and your hitting bedrock your at the top of the neather and you have to dig down instead. remember that every block in the neather equals to 8 blocks in the over world
