Well, that's because the developer's selection of skins reflects how we feel, as a society, about ourselves, and exposes some of the gender-related issues hiding in the shadows. Just, you know, through the tint of video games.
I don't see it that way at all. Girls playing video games is still a relatively new thing. It takes time for things to adjust to change. It's not like getting more female skins into one little game would be some huge victory for women everywhere. There are much more important things out there than that. Like I said way back a few pages, this feels like a double standard.
If the first pack had more girls skins than guy skins, it wouldn't be nearly as big of an issue. I also don't get why people are flipping the hell out over 1 pack of 5. There are still 4 more packs left to go. If after all 5 are out, there are still a very small amount of skins for girls, then everyone can bring it up. Right now, why can't everyone just wait and see what happens?
I haven't gotten the pack, (just got home), but from the list the female skins didn't seem to appealing...I prefer playing female characters because all other games I have pretty much shove the whole male main character in your face a lot.
Looking at another perceptive...
It's harder to make the "steves" look like girls to begin with. Pretty much the sure fire way to define a guy from a girl skin is long hair or clothing design. Colors play a role also...Lighter colors are more associated with a female then vise-versa. (pink vs. red). With these points...there is no busts in minecrafts, there's no hips, or head shapes...everyone is the same size and dimensions. All you have is a flat canvas...
edit* don't get me wrong, i'm not complaining or crying about it. slightly disappointed yes, but I'll still play the game. I kinda like cyclist steve.
Most skins are unique video game characters, and all of them have blocky pixel bodies. There are a few feminine ones, yet there is still more and more complaining about the matter.
"But I use them to resemble how I actually look!"
I do not believe that any of the currently released ones could have a similar relation to any normal human male or female (except for about a ninth of them). Besides, if 4J Studios did that, they would also have to make more skins for all races, sexualities, etc. All I am saying is that you are going to have some bad luck with that abnormal preference. (this applies to everyone with aforementioned liking)
The only solution would be the ability to change the gender and/or race of all skins. However, I think this would be too much effort for such a minor problem.

I have to disagree...
This relates to posts I made in a thread that got way off-topic, not too long ago. I think the skins in this skin pack kind of reflect on how women's mindsets about themselves have been changing recently. The only skins available are stereotypical WOMEN skins, instead of cool skins that just happen to be female, as if the women need to be SHOWN that they're women, and TREATED like they're women, instead of just as a normal person who happens to be that gender.
That's what I see way too much of now - women demanding that everyone treat them like "women", that guys drool all over them constantly, that everyone give them attention and treat them like the child-bearing goddess that they "are". I think that's the direction that a lot of "women" are tending to go, and I think this skin pack reflects that pretty well.
Women that do act like that probably just do it subconsciously, so when you show them this skin pack, they become offended, because they see that this is how they expect to be treated: like a queen, like a nurse, like Ms Splosion Man, instead of like Flower Dress Girl, Normal Girl 1, Normal Girl 2, Jeans Girl, or even Joanna Dark. It gives them a look at their own subconscious.
I thought there would be a lot more girl skins, because lets be honest, on the list of games that we are likely to play, minecraft is going to be right up there... They should have expected a pretty large base of female players.
I play & plenty of my fellow female friends play... I can understand games like CoD and Battlefield etc not having female skins due to the main player base, but minecraft should have expected us.

Maybe they didn't want to because then some people might have seen it as stereotyping girls. That they don't play Call of Duty or other "man" games and only play games like Minecraft.
Sexism is a slippery slope. Even when they don't mean for it to be sexist.

Wow.
I guess I just don't know many girls that are bothered by it other than the handful on here. I've met tons of girls on Left 4 Dead that were fine with being guy characters or that there was only one female character. Same with Left 4 Dead 2. I guess it just bothers some women, and not others.

Sexism seems to be going the opposite direction nowadays... Women demand to be treated better than men, instead of equal to them, and if they're not, they play the sexism card. Just seems like that, from my personal experience. It really upsets the balance of this whole gender equality thing.
And Left 4 Dead is fine, because both Zoey and Rochelle aren't stereotypical woman characters. Neither of them is a stripper, or a nurse, or a queen, or a waitress. They're normal people.
I'm not overly bothered by it, I play battlefield a lot and i couldnt care less that my character is a boy, you cant see yourself hardly anyway... I just thought minecraft would have expected more female players and added more skins, but if they dont then no problem, its the least of minecrafts problems at the moment.

I support this! I'm a guy but I completely agree... Kinda biased to have such a large variety of male skins but not as many female skins! Also, I am looking for people to play Minecraft on Xbox with, message me if interested. +1 to the creator of this topic!
What? It's true! I can't even speak my mind to women anymore without them calling me sexist! A lot of women don't want to be treated equal... they use the feminism movement as a guise to demand better treatment than men, and FROM men.

Although Rochelle is a bit more awesome, considering she has Depeche Mode on her shirt.

Not all women. But a lot of them.
Wow... this coming from a friend who deleted me on facebook because I posted one slightly sad status... I think you tend to over-dramatize things justtttttt a little.

I deleted you because of my own issues. Doesn't mean I wanted to stop being your friend, because I appreciated and enjoyed your friendship. I just didn't necessarily want to see what was going on in your life at all times, you know?

Er, not really. In fact, I haven't met a single women in the last 5 years who's tried to pull a sexism card on me to gain something. In my experience these women are actually far and few between - in other words, just about as frequently as truly misogynistic men. Bigotry isn't gender specific.
But to claim that this is even close to being the norm is a far far cry from actual reality, as I experience it. Most women I know just want to get on with living rather than argue about gender equality. In fact, that's really the aim - we shouldn't be having to have this argument at all, because everything should just be basically equal.
Getting back to the OP: I think they could have done more to support female characters in Minecraft, but it's not going to kill anyone if they're not there. Hopefully future packs will have better and more female skins.
In response to something some random person said: I tend to choose females more than males in games, and no I'm not transgender. I thought the female Commander Shepherd in Mass Effect was simply better acted and felt more real than the male one, and I tend to empathise more with a female protagonist in games than a male - probably because 90% of male characters are some male power fantasy that I don't personally subscribe to. Sometimes it's eye candy too, sure - but again, to paint things out as being that simplistic is to, quite simply, insult men. Men are capable of thinking outside their own gender and beyond what gets the blood flowing to the genitals.
Nurse? Really? And Hammer was the most disliked protagonist of any video game ever. She was bulky, arrogant, and stupid.
The only female skins are stereotypical female skins like Nurse, Swimmer, Queen, etc. I mean, they might as well have added Stripper and Prostitute skins, and made them both female.
Where are the Normal Girl 1 and Normal Girl 2 skins? Where are the GOOD female characters like Joanna Dark and Laura Croft?
You hit the nail on the head. That's exactly what I'm asking.... well... demanding.
Its scary that im actually getting used to the new glass and lighting ... Maybe im just forgetting how good it used to be, coz I actually dont mind too much now

It's not an unreasonable demand.
