Those are stone brick half slabs, which aren't in the Xbox version yet.
thought they were the smooth stone half slabs and they stone brick is the same colour as the smooth stone anyway. Wouldnt matter anyway the point is the lighting as it is which is identical... isnt showing anything grey at all
Oddly enough, it looks like my Xbox 360 does the lighting better than my PC lol
But still, everyone wanted the update, you got the update. You don't like something in the update, boo hoo. Crying about it won't do a damn thing. 4J won't change it back. Instead of constantly whining about it, why not try to find news ways of building or placing things that better fit the new lighting system?
Really though, this new lighting model sucks. It just doesn't fit the aesthetic of the world. the clean sharp contrasts from shadow to dark was well defined and smooth before. Artistically it seemed to emote a since of drama and dread deep in a dark cut out mineshaft. Now everything is fuzzy and too well lit up and washed out. shadows under trees are completly wrong hues, etc...
The game now has an overall SD look to it. It's actually so dishartning that i have yet to play again since the update. i just can't stand to see all the things i talked up about the lighting to other gamers be completly wiped out with the new.
Am I being overlly dramatic about the new lighting? Ya maybe, but then again isn't that what makes minecraft special? the fact that i feel a strong connection to the digitized world i inhabit and build and take care of, a place that gives me the same since of home as the real world. Strange indeed, but all in all on an artistic level the new lighting just plane sucks!
My problem is that all the things I've built now look like someone poured dirt on them, which makes me less motivated to build new things.
Sure, I've built several things today, but there hasn't been a 5 minute period where I haven't thought, "Ugh, this room looks like poop now."
Then you need to adjust how you light rooms. Things will look less "dirty" if you use more torches. Create more light and move them closer together to eliminate the light that cause s that "dirty" effect.
The people whining about the lighting should stop. You don't have to, of course, but you should. The light looks as it should. Natural ambient light diffuses over distance which is the "brown" you are seeing. There is less light intensity as you get farther away from the source. Also, fire has a natural yellow/orange color that it gives off, and so, should make the surroundings look slightly yellow/orange.
Here are some pictures as an example:
Not a torch on a wall, but the same principle applies.
Torches near a wall.
Candle.
/End rant about whiny whiners whining.
ya to bad ingame doesn't look anywhere close to those real lighting effects.

Look you don't have to quote "dirty" as if you don't agree with how muddy everything looks now. This isn't really an up in the air opinion type of thing. clearly there is a dirty film effect happening with the new lighting model that just looks bad when compared to the precious lighting model
You guys do realize that you can use glowstone to get the orange tint from the lighting to go away, right? The torch light is designed to look more realistic, and that's what it does.

Whether things look "dirty" is an up in the air opinion. Seeing as how I don't think they look "dirty". I think the lighting looks great and much more natural. I can now see a single torch from much further away and it gives those areas that warm glow of reddish/yellow light. People just need to relearn how to light up their worlds.
Alright, so I updated my Minecraft the first 10 minutes it came out, I was excited for all the new stuff but I noticed my house looked different, the glass from a distance looked weird, the trees were dark from the wood, some white wool is stained, and cobblestone has a pale brownish color. I really don't like it so will it change, will be choose what lighting system we want, or will it be the same lighting system until 1.8?
I never had Minecraft PC so I don't know what will come in the 1.8 update.
it looks awesome especaly 50% gamma and cobblestone doesent make me want to rip it down now

you know what? after a little ranting. i went back to the game with fresh eyes. took down all lights and relit my world. It looks great!! i'm afraid i was upset for no reason, just had to stop whinning for a second and adjust.

You mean like not using torches, a.k.a. "lights that make your world look dirty"?
People just waste a lot of energy complaining when they could be putting that towards building or finding ways round the lighting.
My problem is that all the things I've built now look like someone poured dirt on them, which makes me less motivated to build new things.
