I don't see how the new lighting system could be bad in any way. Everything looks so...awesome. A night with 100% gamma on is one of the most beautiful things I have seen. Whenever I play, now, I feel a deviously nostalgic tinge in my stomach.

It's funny how when this new lighting system was first implemented in the PC, nobody had a problem with it and everyone was excited for it.
Now that it's on the Xbox, you guys are bitching and moaning about it when it's been on the PC for a year and nobody has given a **** about it.
Okay so maybe if you pay attention you would know why these things have changed. You may not like these changes but I have a feeling you havent noticed any of the cool changes yet. Go to Options, How to Play, Whats New on the main menu to see what has been added in update 1.7.3. BTW the lightning system was added before this update.
To everyone whining about the new lights... have you gone outside at night? I mean, where there's no light at all. Previously, it was just dark, but with the new system, it now looks kinda blue. It looks awesome. I love it.
Heres some more pics.... And people saying put your gamma to 100%, I tried that, makes it look even worse.. just over saturates it with light and loses all contrast.
Anyway here you go: The new look of glass is the worst thing imo, closely followed by the yellow tinge:

The new lighting system changes the lighting dynamic, making light spread more realistically. You must readjust all of your lighting to match accordingly. People on the PC adjusted. Console goers have to as well.

No amount of adjusting is going to change the facts that:
1) Redstone torches now emit next to no light
2) Glowstone light is disgustingly yellow
3) Glass now looks horrible at distance

I don't get how people are complaining when the new lighting is nothing new. It's been on the pc for a long time now, and it's no different on the xbox, so if you don't like it, whining isn't going to fix it. Getting used to it is. Took me about 5 minutes to adjust. You're going to have to get over it.
Who cares what its like on the PC, I'm not playing on the PC, I'm playing on the damn xbox... And just because its that way on the PC doesnt make it better, it looks horrible compared to the old lighting....
Old lighting = bright, crisp, clean, colours keep their colour & dont stain
New lighting = dull, yellow'y, stain textures & glass looks AWEFUL.

You're either going to have to get used to it, or stop playing.
There are many reasons why the new lighting is better, but some people bash once they find 1 problem with it.
I personally love the lighting, it gives a warm feeling in my base. The moon also emits a blue tint, making night time not pitch black anymore. Yes, I know this is the PC version, but the Xbox version and PC version share the same lighting engine. It's also faster to show screenshots.
I highly suspect it's people's shitty TVs. I play on a 42 in plasma and the new light looks fantastic.
Cobblestone is brighter and brick looks more brick-red rather than stop sign red. The ocean looks great at night and light travels farther through open air, making the night less pitch black.

and yet despite the 'same' lighting your stone is actually grey hmm yeh but its identical.

I'd play with your game settings and your Tv setting until the lighting looks right.
It looks perfectly normal on my HDTV.
What is your gamma set at?
If it's not at 100, try putting it there and see if you're still having the same problems. If you are, I don't know what to tell ya.
LOL, was just going to say, people must have there setting's wrong!
at 100 everything just looks washed out as though someone put the world in the washer and all the colour has faded.

You have smooth lighting turned off in video settings. It should look like this, which is the same thing as the XBLA version.

None of that's going to change so get used to it. It's been that way on the PC for almost a year now.

True...True....
