Here's a fairly simple way you can make a totally hidden trap for your friends or those unwanted griefers.
Here's what it looks like when it's done.
You will need: 1 redstone torch, 25 redstone dust, 9 repeaters, and 12 sticky pistons.
Step 1. Start out by digging out 10 x 6 and 3 deep.
Step 2. In the center dig out 2 x 2 as deep as you want.
Step 3. Fill in with lava. (or maybe save the lava for last, just incase you fall in the pit by accident while building)
Step 4. Next build up 2 x 2 blocks like so (I used stone for clear view, you can use just about any block you want)
Step 5. Next add 4 sticky pistons on both sides like so
Step 6. Then add two sticky pistons on both sides like so Step 7. Next add redstone repeaters like so. The numbers represent the number of ticks for that particular redstone repeater. Step 8. Next we are going to add redstone like so Step 9. Next dig out four dirt two deep like so Step 10. Next put down a block with a redstone torch on it like so Step 11. Add some redstone like so
When redstone connects the sticky pistons will extend like so Step 12. Go ahead and add dirt to the sticky pistons like so
Pistons in action
The pressure plate goes on the block on top of redstone like so
Last Step. Go ahead and fill in the rest with dirt or what ever block you are using.
So that's all there is to it! Have fun with the build. Let me know if you have any questions or to let me know I missed something in this tutorial. (First tutorial ever)

Did you really need to quote that whole big ass post. I'm pretty sure he woulda known you were talking to him.
To the OP.... Not trying to be rude at all, but what exactly is the point of this. The pressure plate is so far away that whoever steps on it wouldnt fall into the hole?
It doesn't have to be a pressure plate there, it could be a switch inside of a house for you to drop creepers into lava with out having to go out. The possibilities with that are endless really. (using buttons/pressure plates with a slight delay, people won't know what hit them) I guess I could have made it with a pressure plate right next to the fall point, but I wanted to have a clear display of where what redstone parts go.

Cool man, yeah I'm not tryin to bust balls here, I genuinely didn't understand. It's clear to me now though, thanks!
Good post by the way. Instructions seem easy to follow.
Maybe you could rig a switch up on top of the falling grass, so when they go over and pull it, the floor drops out. I'm no redstone expert, so my idea is most likely not right...correct me if i'm wrong though, need to go watch some redstone videos...

You people really need to stop quoting the original post. The OP already said not to (kind of), and it makes it a pain in the ass to find other posts. I'm sure it'd be appreciated.
Nice instructions, tutorial. However, it's also quite involved, expensive, time consuming to build, etc, etc, and it all depends on "the enemy" stepping on a little pressure plate (like I'd step on a plate I didn't put down), your timing of throwing a switch... IF "the enemy" steps in the right spot.
I'd rather just shoot their butt with a bow and arrow...
