If I have two sticky pistons, facing the same direction, properly wired with redstone for the first and second pistons, will the first piston push the second piston? ie. Can the reach of the pistons be extended by adding sticky pistons facing the same way?
I did a quick search online, and don't see anyone saying yes or no.

I think what will happen is that the first one will extend, pushing the second and then the second one, when it gets power will extend. But you'll have to move the second one so that redstone power is being wired into it.

Not to be difficult, but have you seen it work? I think it'll work, too. But I don't know.
Double pistons? It's possible to get them to work. Have the first piston powered(obviously), then run the wire to where the other piston will be when pushed.
When deactivating, make sure the piston that's being moved is retracted, as the sticky piston will NOT pull an extended piston.

So extending works, but retracting, the moved one has to retract first, then the stationary one can retract it?
Which means they'll retract a stack of four fence posts, right? (presuming the bottom of the fence posts is hovering over a half slab when closed)
Pistons will only retract 2 blocks.
Think of the Lava as 2 pistons. They take up 2 blocks while not extended.
Now, this would be them extended. Where Iron is their extended arms.
Notice how it's only 2 blocks longer? 2 pistons will only pull in and push out 2 blocks.
You'll need more and more pistons to pull and push things to a further distance.
I think the limit is 14 blocks if I remember correctly.

Of course. Thanks for the pictogram.

There just needs to be a power source for the second piston to extend after being pushed by the first one.

Retired StaffSo extending works, but retracting, the moved one has to retract first, then the stationary one can retract it?
If you can figure out a way to get the moved piston to retract before the stationary one retracts, it will work as you want it to.
Which means they'll retract a stack of four fence posts, right? (presuming the bottom of the fence posts is hovering over a half slab when closed)
They'll push up to 12(I think?) blocks, but only push one.
Pistons will only retract 2 blocks.
