1.8 you don't HAVE TO make a new world. Just to get the new terrain and villages and stuff you do

Of 10 things he doesn't want you to do. And if you do ANY of these ten things he has a special place, full of fire, and smoke, and burning, and torture, and will send you there to suffer and choke and scream for all of eternity... But he still loves you.
There's nothing in 1.7.3 that will change as far as terrain generation... so making a new map isn't really necessary. With the next one (1.8), you only have to make a new map if you really really want villages and the new biomes.
Yes youll only have to restart with terain changes.Still no list of updates for 1.7.3,so you might or might not , if they fix something small again like they did with clay.

To the OP yes you will just like with the last patch if you dont have clay and you want it youll have to restart.
