My friend and I have been working on a really awesome world for a while now, and we are thinking of putting it online and letting people come in and role play. what do you think would attract more role players, if our two kingdoms are at war, constantly having to watch our backs and fight to stay at power, or at Peace were we work together to creativity build a massive and beautiful society?
also, could people please expand, i would like to know why!
War; Would cause panic but a sense of a greater Danger than mobs causing excitement and provoking players to make game-changing decisions. More of a challenge to survive against the enemy(s) Players may backstab players in high positions to cause a government collapse or military collapse (If 'player' dies the player has to start over or may be death-ban) making it interesting to play but may cause too much stress in players. Always striving to be the best player of the entire game.
Peace; Boring always trying to find land to build on until having a small claim to only be overpowered by one of the kingdoms eventually turning into war due to arguements over land mass...
War; it gives players the opportunity to build what they can and survive for as long as possible while keeping some edge. Most energized players love excitement, and what better than finding multiple ways to kill other players? I know there are some redstone magicians on this site that can whip up something devastating to wipe out any player who falls in their traps. And I also know there are some players who simply want to fight to the death, even if they build some colossus structure.
War. The chaos it brings seems way more fun and there's a wider variety of cool things to build
hmm, but what about the stress of war? and people rage quitting? and larger more creative builds being destroyed, not to mention that the builds wont be being made if people are busy fighting.

I don't think it'll be very stressful the couple times I've been in a war game it's been nothing but fun.
As for rage quitters you'll just have to make sure you don't invite fags who will quit.
The larger buildings could be off limits, or you could always save constantly so if one of the more important ones goes down you reload the save.
I think people will still build, there's tons of stuff to build for a war game to gain the upper hand.
War is more fun but, Peace is more productive..... Tough call. No doubt a peaceful kingdom will eventually have a disagreement. Maybe start one way and turn it into something else as users/story progress. Just a thought.... Build it up just to tare it down during the war
War, here is why. If you go for peaceful people will get bored and make it a war. Also everybody wants that slight sense of adrenaline when they know they are being hunted constantly... that's just my 2 cents worth.

hmm, i guess that's true,
I've never been a fan of having too many rules though.
If i was going to allow the kingdom to enter war, i would want it to be as fair as possible, war doesn't usually have an off limits area
and whats war without casualties? perhaps they would be motivational.
i guess my next questions is this: will people be willing to build knowing that there work is in danger?
what strategies do people have for having there central kingdom remain mostly safe with using only role playing type rules.
what i mean is "no going here" is not a role playing type rule, as it wouldn't be realistic
"your only allowed to carry a realistically heavy amount or items" is the kind of rule i would have.

Since you can't see into another players inventory, It will have to be done on honesty
true, but if someone sees them with what appears to be way more then realistically carryable you could accuse them of witchcraft or something and put them on trial.
idk, i just think that that rules like that are way more fair then "dont go here" or "no digging here"
"in my castle? BANNED"
"you cant use cobblestone!"

I have a server that I am a member of on the PC.
There's three towns, each towns have safe havens, and anywhere between the safe havens are PvP areas.
You have to defend your city and gather resources according to make your town thrive.
BUT if another town member gets to your city they're allowed to grief :x

Stick with peace. Unless you can come up with something to fight for.
how has this worked out for you guys in the past?
and if people have to start over, what becomes of there creations?
well, eventually i think we will be able to have more, I've heard talk of rent-a-servers.
and we would be fighting for land, and power! what else?

or would this idea not work at all?
Yeah. I would so I'm sure others would too

what stops people from getting into the city?
