Im reading about all these people losing their worlds, some due to glitching/duping, and some just at random. Its got me a little worried, even though i haven't used any glitch of any sort (to my knowledge at least)
Would anyone mind telling me how i can go about backing up my world?
Also, is there a way to collect and place tree leaf blocks?
You'd have to copy your save to a different device.
The upcoming update will introduce shears to the 360 version, which will allow you to collect and place leaf blocks. There is no confirmed date on when it will be released, but all signs point to this week, or worst case, early next week.

Losing a world. Only if you duplicate and leave the duplication block on the ground without burning it. Or if you shut off the xbox while it's saving/loading.
1/1000 worlds (on average) get corrupted. You will be fine. People who don't duplicate because they think they are gonna get corrupted. You just gotta be smarter than the average bear to duplicate safely.

Religion, has actually convinced people, that there's an invisible man, living in the sky, who watches everything you do every minute of the day, and the invisible man has a special list. Of 10 things he doesn't want you to do. And if you do ANY of these ten things he has a special place, full of fire, and smoke, and burning, and torture, and will send you there to suffer and choke and scream for all of eternity... But he still loves you.
Create your world, save it and exit the game. Then go to:
Settings
System
Storage
Hard Drive
Games and Apps
Minecraft: Xbox 360 Edition
(find your world file and press A)
Copy
Cloud Saved Games
You now have a copy of your world on your hard drive and also on the cloud. You can also do the reverse - select the cloud saved game and copy it to your hard drive.
I use the cloud version while playing every day, and every night I back it up to the hard drive.
NOTE: You must enable cloud storage the first time you use it. It's free with your xbox live subscription.
Also note, copying a hard drive file to cloud is VERY slow. But copying cloud to hard drive is quick. That's why I play using the cloud version and back up to hard drive every night instead of vice versa. But it doesn't matter which way you do it.
My next experiment will be to try backing worlds up to a USB flash drive "stick" but I need to buy one to try it out. I need to find a way to have regular archives (such as keeping them on my PC and transferring them to/from xbox with the USB device).

Me and all my friends have duped worlds, and never ever have a problem. I don't keep the glitched blocks, I destroy them. But I have friends who keep the glitched blocks in their chests and their worlds run just fine without any corruption.
I think the whole "duping and glitches will corrupt your save file" is a fallacy. I've had one glitch, but it was repeatable and I was able to find a solution to it thru experimentation, a work-around.
Backups are a must in this game. I find it difficult to comprehend how this game didn't have a COPY/RENAME function right from the beginning. What was 4J thinking anyway?
