So. I used to play the PC version back in the day. Now I am exclusive to the X-Box version. One thing I have noticed is that once I start drowning, I cannot not reach the surface. Every time Steve gasps for air, He goes back down a block.
I don't really remember the game being like that on the PC.
Religion, has actually convinced people, that there's an invisible man, living in the sky, who watches everything you do every minute of the day, and the invisible man has a special list. Of 10 things he doesn't want you to do. And if you do ANY of these ten things he has a special place, full of fire, and smoke, and burning, and torture, and will send you there to suffer and choke and scream for all of eternity... But he still loves you.
About my original post, I just loaded my PC version and tried to swim straight up. It worked. I was able to swim to the surface. Is it different for the x-box version?
Yea, this happened to me yesterday. Its because sometimes when drowning you receive downwards recoil, which counters all your efforts to swim up. I think its a bug. I have a huge home underwater, so im use to drowing a little here and there, but sometimes it wont let you swim up.

It's like that on PC, too. There's an upcoming fix for "knockback during drowning."
Basically, any time you take damage, you will knockback. Drowning damage does the same thing - which isn't quite right and leads to suicide swims. :\

This happens in closed quarters.
If you're in an open area you'll be able to swim up.
I can't tell you how many times I died attempting to resurface after a rather long dive for squids and breaking into a mob spawner (in caves under the water).
For people that are squid hunting.... You can cause Squids to spawn in very shallow waters. The only restriction they have for spawning is that there is water - doesn't matter how deep or how big. There's no reason to dive into the ocean to go find them.
Ahhh. A breath of fresh air. Pun intended. Concise, to the point and didn't belittle me for drowning.
Nah, it's a legit problem that a lot of people experience. You have a Minecraft name registered on the forums, so go give the PC version a couple of tries - you can drown to death while there is a full air bubble meter on the screen in certain scenarios. Mostly, you have to make those scenarios by doing the bucket/sign/torch/ladder/etc trick, but sometimes it even happens in "natural" water ladders inside ravines. I've drowned quite a few times with a full bubble meter in SMP......
Click the arrow in the sig. It'll take you right to it.
The whole thread is garbage. Something about someone saying all custom skins could never exist because MS wants all your money and then switching to saying people can draw nipples on them. It was pretty funny.
I often write automated tests at work. Visiting forums while they run is an off-hand task that I do pretty regularly. I don't usually *try* to start arguments, but people like to argue and it passes the time while I watch the stats go by in another window.

But I suggest just not running out of air.
Bring a bucket with you.
Second chance life saver, y'know.
This is too funny but yeah I have die countless times to that monster called the ocean.

I need to see the post your signature is referring to. Had me cracking up.
