Notice: this thread is for the benefit of newbies looking for tips on how to get this achievement. Feel free to share your own tips and ideas on how to do it.
Sup guys, Chikka Bow Wow here.
I'm here today to tell you how to ride that son of a biscuit-eatin' pig off a cliff in a way that anyone who has ever built a gravity trap is familiar with.
You need:
A stack of dirt
Two buckets of water
A saddle
First thing you want to do is find a suitable location. You need to find a pig near a drop that's at least 4 blocks deep, or can be easily terraformed, and cage him in a 2x2x2 space. This is easily achieved using wheat to lure the pig along. "DESPITE ALL MY RAGE, I AM STILL JUST A PIG IN A CAAAGE"
Next, build a 2x8x2 channel, starting from the edge of your cliff. If you didn't manage to cage your pig in where your water channel is going to go, that's fine. It's easy to corral him into the channel by building a 2-wide and 2-high path to the channel and then breaking the wall of the cage to let him wander over. Just make sure to put a barrier in the channel so the pig can't wander out.
"Well at least he's making my pen bigger" -naive pig
Here's another shot of the water channel, ending at the drop which I have made 5 blocks deep, just because I like hurting pigs slightly more than is necessary to get this achievement.
Now that your pig is caged at the opposite end of the channel than the drop, pour your two water buckets into the back corners of your channel and saddle up your pig, but don't mount your pig yet. "What is this, leather armor? Monsters don't even attack me!" -Pig, still naive
Make sure the channel is 8 blocks long, so that the water will flow to the ledge of the drop without flowing over the edge. If you're unsure, you can also hang signs on the top of the cliff wall. If the channel isn't long enough, the sign will prevent the water from pouring down the cliff face, and thus allow the pig to fall without riding the water down and avoiding fall damage. But the water must reach the ledge, so your channel must not be longer than 8 blocks.
Once that's done, break down the cage wall so that the water flows and quickly mount that pig! Since the pig is struggling, he will randomly resist the current, but soon enough, the current will drag him off.

My friends and I all blocked the pig up like you but we just dug a 5 deep hole below the pig, then we broke a few spots out underneath the pig and then they fell..... Pop goes the Cheevo.
While I have already gotten the achievement, nice job making this guide! It will help a lot of people out
Also, if you're putting the signs in front of the water, make sure that the signs are actually in FRONT of
the water and not just on the edge of the cliff. That way the water won't just flow over the signs.

Oh nice, gettting the achievement Reverse-Spleef style. Good thought!
I caged a pig and dug all around him. Then uncaged him and punched him to his death 0.0
I did that my first time too. Thought you could slap a pig and get him riled up and make him more likely to run. Instead I ended up wasting the only saddle I'd found up to that point.

Same thing happened to me and every other achievement was accomplished within 5hours of purchasing MC the day it was released and I still haven't gotten the Pigs Fly achievement. Thanks though The pictures and tips will make it easier when I try instead of killing my pig before he gets a chance to fall.
I just got it by trapping a pig on a 3x3 then digging under it 4 blocks. I then dug the platform the pig was on until there were just two blocks left (one for me, one for the pig). I sat on him and hit him with my shovel and he fell and I got the achievement!
I originally got the achievement using 888 by taking my pig over the cliff. Later, though, I did it again in my own world... I fenced my pig in where I found him and then added a 1 x 3 pen on the side of that using fence rails and a set of double doors. I dug a big pit just outside the double doors deep enough that the pig would take damage. Then with the doors closed, I pushed him into that side of the pen and closed us both in. I saddle the pig, got on and then quickly opened the doors. Having no where else to go, he jumped out the open doors and immediately into the pit. Done.

Retired StaffThat seems to be another popular way to do it, but just my luck I'd end up killing the pig with the shovel before I managed to dig out the ground.
