Because iv'e seen this on youtube and i don't remember if it was xbox or PC
Better yet, i don't remember if it was a mod or not.
Well im just asking
-Thanks
Sand only floats due to a small problem in world generation, i.e. in a desert, a water pool will generate, and some sand remains on top, which then will fall when a block update happens, by, say, you breaking one of the sand blocks. You can't make floating sand like this yourself without, say, a form of World Editing, which I don't think yet exists in the XBOX version of Minecraft, and probably won't ever exist.
There's also a bug in which you can place a torch under a piece of sand, and the sand will float above the torch, instead of falling on it and breaking, like it's supposed to. However, I doubt this will help any, as it only works for a single block of sand, any block updates (by, say, placing another block next to it) will make it fall and break on the torch.
In short, it's not really possible for the XBOX edition, at least intentionally. Sorry 'bout that.

not regular sand however on the tutorial world if u find the light house (which i for some reason call ft tower)(also its not pronounced f-t its ft lol) there is floating sand by it lol
Goddamm it. There is nothing worse than being stuck in a room of pure sand that hasn't been updated. And I mean, stuck. I.e. no way back out, the only way out is to dig upwards, updating the blocks. Looks like jigsaw finally got me...

If you have any blocks and its 3 high, you could put a block on the sand above you, stopping it. Also, if you have a torch, you can put it on the block you're standing on and mine straight up.
I know this is an old topic, but I figured out a way to make sand float. Place two blocks, one on top of the other. Place a vine on the lower block. Place sand on the side of the top block, then destroy the two blocks. Bam.

Note - liam923 bumped this not me
If it's a trap then keep the sand on signs connected to signs so that one piston breaks them all.
