hello im a noob to minecraft and have a question about update 1.7.3. after the update will i be able to cage animals and run an effective farm without the animals despawning?

No, farming and animal breeding came in 1.0.0 (Full Release). Since we're going in this direction: 1.7.3 --> 1.8.2 --> 1.2.3, we can expect to get animal farming & breeding in 1.2.3. There is a possibility of having those two pushed earlier (1.8.2), but I doubt it.

Curse PremiumNo, farming and animal breeding came in 1.0.0 (Full Release). Since we're going in this direction: 1.7.3 --> 1.8.2 --> 1.2.3, we can expect to get animal farming & breeding in 1.2.3. There is a possibility of having those two pushed earlier (1.8.2), but I doubt it.
