I understands some updates require you to create a new world do to new features being added. I also know that the 1.7.3 update (Which come next in a few days) won't require you to do that .But will the others will. I just want to know how far to go in my world.

The next update (after 1.7.3) will require you to restart your world but TBH i woudnt expect that till september-november o you still have lots of time
You do not need to start a new world for 1.7.3. Items like pistons can be used in old worlds.
The only time you need to start a new world is when new terrain comes out and you've explored your entire world.

You dont HAVE to... Just to get the new biomes and terrain you do...

Religion, has actually convinced people, that there's an invisible man, living in the sky, who watches everything you do every minute of the day, and the invisible man has a special list. Of 10 things he doesn't want you to do. And if you do ANY of these ten things he has a special place, full of fire, and smoke, and burning, and torture, and will send you there to suffer and choke and scream for all of eternity... But he still loves you.

New (most) blocks, craftable items, and overall game mechanics improvements will not require you to stat a new world. However, if you'd like to see the new terrain changes (NPC villages, mineshafts, ravines, strongholds, rivers, new biomes, etc) in the upcoming updates and you've explored your whole world, then yes, you would need to start a new save.

I believe he was referring to terrain changes.
