In the current PC version, animals are permanent. You only get so many per chunk, and they only spawn when the chunk is created, and never again. In that version you can hold wheat in your hand and lure animals into a pen. Then you can feed the wheat to them and they will go into "love" mode and mate with any other animal of its type also in "love" mode. This keeps animals reliable and recyclable.
As for the Xbox, you will have to wait for the 1.2 update to get all that. Right now, any mob will despawn if you are not within 72 blocks of it.
You can't farm/breed animals in the current version. Breeding/farming animals came in the 1.0.0 update, full release version. Since the order of updates go as followed: 1.7.3 --> 1.8.2 --> 1.2.3, we can expect animal farming & breeding in 1.2.3.
mine keep dissapering all the time and find it difficult to push them into a fenced area.
Can anyone tell me what im doing wrong. i want to build a farm with animals everywhere and breed them without them de-spawing all the time.
