I'll skip the formalities and go right to my idea. So it's already been established that mods are a big "NO NO" on 360 Minecraft. Now my idea comes from a mod. Put simply this mod removes the hunger bar for survival. So, I was wondering if it could be placed into the game as a simple option?
How it COULD work:
So I thought of a few way to impliment this option. Let me start with the easiest but least effective: I was thinking it could be put into the game as a setting. Simply going to game options and under [I think the section is called] "Game Interface" where you can change things like brightness.
ThePROBLEM with this method:
So, some of the people reading this might not see this as an issue but none the less it's something that needs to be considered. If you put this option into the game people could toggle it on and off when they are running low on food, then put it back on when they get more. Now that might seem a little pointless but none the less it's something to think of!
Another way this COULD work:
The current interface of the level select asks you the following every time you load a level; Online Mode, Invite Only and Difficulty. Now if this option was to be considered, removing the hunger bar, I can see no problem with having it placed on the level select interface.
Anyways, that's my idea and I would really like to have some opinions from other people. Do you think this could work out?
Would you use it?
How would you think of adding it to the game?
We don't actually have the hunger bar yet, I'm sure you know that though. I think it would be an option to consider if peaceful difficulty turned the hunger bar off.

On peaceful there is no hunger, the bar doesn't get turned off however it does not drain.
I personally don't like the idea, if it is put in the game I for one wouldn't turn it off, I like the idea of the hunger bar.
O/P If 4J would put this in I don't think that the level select option only would necessarily be an issue because if they follow suit with the PC version and add the ability to change the difficulty on the fly, people will just switch back to peaceful before the die, wait to heal, then switch it back again.

Haha Yeah I do. But when they get around to making the 360 version 1.8 we will have it implemented. Do you think it would be something you use playing on easy and up? Both my friend and I aren't big on the Hunger bar so I figured I would post this.

I see what your saying and I'm not sure if I'm misunderstanding what you are saying in some way, so please let me know if I got this wrong. On MCXBL when you select a level to play you get the menu for: Online, Invite only, etc. As of right now you can't simply change difficulty in the start menu. The player must exit his level and when he selects the level to go back in, then he can switch the difficulty.
(Does that make sense with what you were saying? or did I totally miss something in your post? If I seemed to have missed something please tell me where lol, not fully awake.)
lol sorry man I was referring to the PC version being able to switch back and forth from peaceful and non-peaceful on the fly (not having to exit every time) . If that gets implemented into MCXB360 then people will most likely use that to their advantage so making sure that the no hunger bar option is only selectable at the level select menu really wouldn't be necessary because the people that would "exploit" that option will just do so with the peaceful/non-peaceful option in game.
I for one love the hunger bar. It makes the game more difficult. Some people see it as a waste of time, but it does give you more to shoot for in survival, since your goal is to survive. I've always felt the food system before the hunger bar was almost like cheating. You can instantly regain health in any situation. With a hunger bar, you have to stop and think a little more before you go running head first into a dark cave.
If they do add an option to remove the hunger bar, every other change for hunger needs to stay. It should still take time to eat the food with the animation, and it still shouldn't instantly refill your health. You should have to wait for it to regenerate like hunger does.
This is a great idea for alot of reasons. It is good for those who dont want to play with the hunger bar and those who like the hunger bar still get to use it. this is a great idea man.
I actually like the hunger bar, and it grows on you. I've played the PC version maybe 3-4 times, and each time I cursed the hunger bar. Then I got the Xbox version, and now I freaking miss it. I can't wait for that particular update to come out.

I understand what your saying, and I do agree for people who are looking for a way to make the game more difficult. I do agree with you that if it was to be added that food shouldn't just heal you in a FLASH! Maybe it could take say 10 seconds to activate a heal OR SOMETHING! I think it also adds an aspect of realism to the game by doing it. (Without being like Fallout: New Vegas where you have to drink every so many minutes as game time is much faster.) However I think it may look like I'm trying to agree with what your saying 100%. I still think having the hunger bar is a cool idea, however without it people like myself who can't mange; health, food, monsters, and your current objective it could be a cool change. Being able to throw the game on Hard mode and not have to worry about dying from nothing.
I'm not saying take the bar out, I'm simply thinking that it could make for another option people could use at their will.
Do you think that could work? (Please note it could sound like I'm being mean, or attacking you..... I don't mean for it to come across that way. I simply want to have a creative discussion here, sorry if it comes across that way. :D)

Thank You! I can't take all the credit for this though.... My friend and I were both talking about it, which got me thinking. And also I found the mod for it yesterday..... I haven't tried so if anyone wants to use it, PLEASE use at your own risk.....

(This is going to sound mean I'm sorry I don't mean it that way) What do you like about? I mean I'm not completely against the hunger bar, but I simply find I could live without it at this point I would love to be able to throw the difficulty on Hard without dying from nothing. But I don't think it should be removed simply an option you could use at your will.

More difficult? Just because it doesn't heal you immediately now? Meh, it's still as easy at it was before.... I just can't jump down 20 block cliffs as often.
It does kind of seem like a waste of time. The argument for that is pretty much the same as having it disabled - bread stacks and is pretty much an infinite supply of food after you've established a basic crop that constantly yields a stupid amount of seeds. You can never actually be without wheat. So, really, it's a waste of time to go make a stack of bread and carry it around for a very long time.
So, no point in disabling it because it's easy to bypass. Keeping it does at least make the game slightly more interesting.
As for not wanting to play with the hunger bar being there, well.... I'd like to play with reduced gravity so that I can jump to the tops of jungle trees instantly - but that's breaking an existing mechanic and sort of anti-productive if I wanted to actually play Minecraft.
I will give you one good reason... If you don't like the hunger play on peaceful.
I really want to hear your opinion and please don't think I'm attacking you. I really like that the hunger bar is availible (Said both of those a few times now) But why would you be against having it as a toggle option? So everyone who enjoys the hunger bar (And a lot of people do) can use it. And the people who don't like it as much can turn it off?

I think you may have missed what I was saying. I don't want to get rid of the existing hunger bar. But as it's a mechanic that already has a partial scaling system, it wouldn't be hard to make it a toggle option. Many people think it works well to add difficulty but how about simply making it so the newer players can adjust to the mosters that attack and then add the hunger bar. Would you be opposed to that?
(I seriously want an opinion from everyone here so please don't think I'm picking on you.)
Maybe just have an option ingame in single player/when making an MP server for disabling it. But not fully removing it, that'd be stupid. And even if you change the option to remove hunger, you can still play on whatever difficulty you want. It'll just have to be justified a bit.

I'm not sure you followed what I was saying......
The hunger bar, which I think is a waste of time in it's current implementation, is a mechanic that's now part of the game. The mechanics added include requiring people to seek out and find a way for a sustainable food supply (even if you decide to gnaw on Zombie flesh for the rest of your days). The days of swigging mushroom soup for infinite hearts are long gone, although I don't believe this actually made the game any easier.
For me, the hunger bar is irrelevant to difficulty. It's a mechanic that's supposed to add to the existing systems by requiring players to complete certain tasks - you can't just sit in a dirt hole to survive, you now must also find food. This is currently a staple mechanic, just like specific gravity, and disabling it is just another way to avoid a built-in mechanic. Disabling these core mechanics is pretty silly, even if their current implementation doesn't really add all that much to your personal game experience.
I wanted to see what some new players would say before I mentioned it, but this idea is neither new nor discussed in a limited manner. You should trip over to the PC forums to see the miles and miles and miles and miles of ridiculous arguments, somewhat useful insights, constant flaming and other ridiculousness. There are also some pretty clever stupid ways to bypass the mechanic - wheat is near infinite (as mentioned), zombie flesh doesn't actually poison you and works fine as food or you can just kill yourself whenever you're low on food to refill your hunger bar.

Okay, but that's the PC version of this game. This thread was more for xbox 360 (That's why it's in 360 forum). And again what I'm trying to get at is this. I don't really care about PC version for this topic. Now I understand part of your arguement is about the core mechanics. I don't however agree with your choice of an example. I understand that the hunger bar is a game mechanic, but so is difficulty and they can scale that. But circling back around to my main point here, why is a toggle hunger bar on or off such a bad idea?

Want the hunger bar. need the hunger bar. I don't think 4J would ever take it out. that is all.
How would you feel if they did remove it? or considered removing it? I mean I'm not 100% against the hunger bar, but I wish sometimes you could just turn it off.
