I want to ask people who know something about this directly. They ported the game to Xbox which is amazing, they are porting features to the Xbox which is also amazing, and something I've been pondering to myself since there has been a ton of whiners and complainers going on about how the Xbox doesn't have nearly what the PC, I don't really care about mods, and a massive map. But I was thinking since the game is now apart of the Xbox, wouldnt they just be able to essentially remake all these features directly for the Xbox, like pistons or whatever else they are releasing instead of having to bring it over from the PC, wouldn't that mean all the features that they didn't added would be able to be added if they were made for the Xbox itself?
What do you think they are doing with the updates? This stuff doesn't just magically grow complete from a tree. They have to recode everything. They just happened to start with version 1.6.6 because that was teh version they had when the contract was being negotiated.
Sorry, but that's a bit too simple. Here's a better explanation:
Minecraft has a large following and 4J wants to ensure a quality port. A quality port includes all of the mechanisms working identically to the ported project. Minecraft itself has certain mechanisms that always behave a certain way including bugs that players have come to rely on.
As an example, if my redstone creations on the 360 version don't function like the wiki describes, the way they do on PC and/or the way they do on YouTube..... well, that's not Minecraft - that's a brand new game that "looks and feels" like Minecraft but isn't because it doesn't function the same as the other versions.
So no, they simply can't start completely redesigning features in C++. They want to accurately translate features of the Java version to the C++ version so that the function (and unintended functions) remain the same.

I'm not talking about taking one thing and moving to another and just changing the code around. Couldn't they just make their own code for these things that would meet the Xboxs specifications.

Read SupaSaru's post. They are essetially trying to mimic Java with C++/C#. 4J even said in an interview that they have had some rough spots where it was difficult to get C++/C# to do what Java does.
Well you have to realize that there is no realistic way to bring all of those features to Xbox.
You also have to realize there is no sensible reasoning to dismissing things in this manner.
4J says they'll be bringing additional enhancements to Minecraft. I don't think there will be any new mechanics, but we'll see.... Capture the Flag has been mentioned and that would definitely be new mechanics.

A simple yes no or maybe would be appreciated

No. Did you read my reply?
I guess one persons answer is going to shut down my post, I was in the process of sending that while you already posted your comment.

That's cool. No reason to get defensive.
Unless you really want to. You totally can if you want.
I don't have any vegetables on my side.....
