The day 1 update was a patch. I won't say it's never released on a Wednesday but there has been the superstition of nothing good can come from a Monday, and M upside down is W! :o!!!
But since most corporations don't work weekends, and Monday/Wednesday is "bad luck" most updates, patches, addons, games, movies, CDs, DVDs, BluRays - are released on Tuesday Thursday and Friday.
That would be with the exclusion of Nintendo which only seems to release good things on Sundays...

I'm pretty sure regardless of when it lands, we still have to wait for the Microsoft update schedule. That's Tuesdays, right? Or Thursday? One is for new games, the other for updates. I always get them confused. If it's not a Tuesday or a Thursday, it's probably wrong (some exceptions, of course). Launch updates don't follow this schedule for any game released with one.

To explore even further, how are the updates you cited different than the update to Minecraft?
The updates you listed included exploits for a competitive multiplayer game. Minecraft's update is a title update with a few bug fixes - none of which would impact players nearly as much as an exploit in a competitive FPS.
If you don't feel like doing that work, then just leap to the insults and skip pretending to try to explore a subject further than the surface.
i woke up this morning, turned on my xbox, got on minecraft in hopes the update took place today, no update.

Could be worse - the 1.8 update for PC is delayed until August. I have two versions of Minecraft that I'm having to sit on my hands waiting to update. :'(

I'm not going to skip to insults, I'm not 12. Honestly, I could do plenty more research and find plenty more updates that came out on all days of the week. The fact is, an update is an update. There is no difference in the certification and release schedule for a bug fix update or an update such as the one Minecraft is getting. Those bug fixes for Gears were bugs that had no real hindrance on the multiplayer experience and were around for months before and update got to them. They weren't mandatory fixes, they were something that Epic felt like fixing. Find me concrete proof of a Microsoft rep telling ME that updates "such as the one Minecraft is getting" CANNOT be released on a Monday or a Wednesday. When that proof is shown, I will quietly stop talking and apologize for being wrong.
It's not a matter of being wrong. It's a matter of challenging something ferociously without being able to properly represent your position and continuing to make an argument for the mere matter of some weird personal existentialism. It's silly. But as I tell other people in other threads, if you're reaching out for this sort of attention it must mean you need help in your development. I'll gladly swat the tennis ball around with you if it helps you in some way - you can probably teach me something, too.

Notice that I said the majority - the majority is a word that means a greater measure of the sampled domain. It is the opposite of minority - meaning the lesser measure of a sampled domain. The word majority does not indicate the entire domain.
In the mean time, if anyone tells you Minecraft is getting a content update on Wednesday and none of that is verifiable from 4J or anyone else.... it's probably wrong because the majority of updates and add-ons release on Tuesdays as verifiable from Major Nelson's blog and many other sources.

As you mentioned, that can be anything. It could even be the skin packs coming early.
4J already mentioned earlier that they're still awaiting the results of the certification test - it's possible it was planned for today, but delayed. Happens sometimes. :\
such a shame .. 10 no its not. .... but after all... 4j said it!::.. such a shame... it is not 10 days no its noooooooooooooooooooooot! (imagine this as Metallica-memory remains in different lyrics!)
Also let it be known that the testing for the update takes up to 10 business days. That means Monday-Friday excluding holidays. So according to the calendar, excluding the 4th of July, as it's a holiday, and the weekend, the update has only been in testing for ~4 days.
The update will come soon enough, 4J has no control over when the updates are released, as it's Microsoft's call if the update passes or not.

Note that this is listed under "Avatar items", along with things like "Halo 4 Update". I'm pretty sure Halo 4 isn't coming out this week ;), so I wouldn't read too much into that item in the Major's list.
If 4J studios said it could take up to 10 days to hit the XBLA last Tuesday July 3rd this means that if it was not out July 4th then it will have to be out next Wensday because all XBLA updates and releases are on WENSDAYS!!!

just because its says up to 10 days doesnt necessarily mean it will take exactly 10 days it could be 10,11,12,13,14,15,16,17,18,19,20,*four weeks later*999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999 days till its released we just need to be patient and see when it happens
