A friend of mine built the bottom layers and I expanded it on through the mountain, I did make some improvements and fixes after the video so next farm time should yield more product. Enjoy:
I think this would technically be semi-automatic as you have to break the blocks to make it work and put them back yourself, as well as manually replant. Still a nice system and seems to work pretty well. Where do you have the water for the wheat? Under the cobble?
With pistons in the update you can make some really impressive farming layouts. My preferred method with pistons is droping the water from above with levers onto a cobblestone block that pushes everything into channels to a set location, but options are endless with pistons.
