This is my newly finished(there are a few small cosmetic things that still need to be taken care of though) train station. It has a 12 track selector. A "Pez" style minecart dispenser that can hold about 8 carts with one always in the departure track. The arrivals automatically go into the arrival bay where the minecart is collected and automatically sent back to the pez holder. Most of the system is automated, you only need to select the destination and press the button on the departure rail when you are ready to go.
Pics: This is the station at night. 3 fountains in the front. The 6 rails on the left are for tracks 7-12 and the 6 on the right are for 1-6.
This is the station from the back at night. The reason it is on a giant cobblestone slab is because that is my mob grinder and i thought it looked a little bland. Plus it was a large flat elevated position between all my friends builds... this gave me the limitation that i couldnt build down at all without going into my grinder... so i had some unique wiring problems that actually made the design somewhat unique in my opinion.
Closer image looking up at the station. you can see into the cart receivers here for the return track a little.
This is the track selector room(track 3 is selected). To the left is the Arrivals gate.
This is the shot from the other side of the room. The departure gate to the direct right. The doorway in the center leading to an overhanging loft that leads to an upstairs observation area. The stairs lead outside to the fountains.
This is the interior of the "Overhang" with stairs leading to the observation area.
Observation area. Stairs leading down to the overhang.
This is where the lines diverge from arrivals to departures. departures go down the ramp and continue the arrivals bank to the left and follow the track inside.
Where the enter this line leading to the arrivals bay.
From here it will be sent back down the arrivals rail and be deposited in the pez.
The pez dispencer suspended from the side of the building. I need to replace the dirt ring. The small ring is what triggers the pez to drop a new cart for the departure rail.
And that's it. 12 destinations. Auto cart feed and storage. Took me about 12 hours to complete. Luckily i already had chests full of materials so all i needed for it was a little more wood and a friend helped me collect that. But this is by far the biggest redstone device i made, and one of the most complex builds i have ever made. I would be happy to help someone build something similar if they want.
Now i'm just waiting to see how long until one of my friends burns it down...
One way of saving time and wasting resources i do is make everything out of dirt. it is plentiful, easy to mine without a shovel, and still has the same properties as stone and wood for redstone work.
When you get everything working and blocked out how you want it is also easier to make an asthetically pleasing building because you can see the big picture already. so you just replace the dirt with the materials you want when you are done.
Finally removed the last of the dirt and replaced with stone/cobble/wood.
I didn't know the images were so dark, i have my gamma cranked so i am going to add some more lighting to the interior soon. I will add some more lighting before i take another screen shot to see how it looks.
Yeah creative mode would have saved me quite a bit of time on this.. and the ability to fly would have been great. The worst part is after i finished this i figured out a way to make the same thing in about half the size... so i am thinking of making ANOTHER station on the opposite side of the mob grinder for comparison sake. I should be able to make a 24 track station in the same amount of room...
If you need help making some redstone devices or train stations shoot me a message on live, gt twisteddragon33 i would be happy to help.
Now all you have left is to make the recieving train stations at your friends pads....are you going to do all the outbound tracks above or below ground or a mix of both?
Yeah... the only reason i made this so large(12 tracks) is because i was trying to take up the entire width of my mob grinder. In all honesty on my game we only have about five or six destinations. I guess we have room to expand.
how do you get the tracks to switch direction? I've been needing to add something like this to my world.
By placing them in a specific way you can force them to go in specific directions.
On a "T" intersection powering the intersection rail will cause it to change orientation and basically switch the track. This combined with pressure plates, switches or pressure rails can control where and when carts go down the tracks.

Looks great btw!
I will be working on a receiving station at all of the buildings on my map(including yours) but i will be trying to make each station match the style of the persons buildings. If you only use glass and obsidian and i make a station out of cobble and wood i dont think it will look right. Plus i need to make an area to receive that doesnt interfere with anyone future building plans.
I do plan on making at least a 3-4 cart hopper at all receiving stations(unless i dont like them, they can walk.)
I don't think i am the best for a tutorial, especially because i dont have any video recording things for my x-box.
I could make a written tut with pics if anyone is interested, but with pistons coming out a good pit of this could be made much more compact. But i will consider it when i get some chances to play with pistons.

If you want to join my map you are welcome to see the massive tunneling and mining operations spanning the entire map,and with 4 people we were able to gather materials we needed pretty quickly if we didnt already have them. As you will note from the first post we had been playing on this map for a while and i even made an entire other thread about how after a week of mining we had enough material to build anything we could imagine. Even after this build i still have over a 1000 iron and well over 300 gold, and at least 200-300 rails still in a chest.
So please don't assume other people are cheating because something is impressive. All the materials needed for this structure could be acquired in 2 hours assuming you already have a house and tools.
I just cannot get teh stinking pez dispenser to work right :/
Same here. I was trying to build one for minecarts with chests in them, but they kept getting hung at the drop off into dispenser or hung when the trapdoor opened. I eventually gave up.
OP- Nice station

No duping at all.
