So, this may be a dumb question, but I didn't find an answer around here in any other topic..
I'm having a bear of a time getting a passive mob spawner to work. I've built them in the PC version a few times (pre-1.7) and never had any trouble. Last night, while cruising youtube, I saw a few passive grinders that advertised they worked in MX360, even watched a vid of one that was definitely MX360 and the guy had one in his world.
So, today I built one using the idea and plans that I saw. I pretty basically built I've had it finished for about half an hour now, and haven't had a single mob spawn up on the platform. The only thing that spawned up there was a single creeper, and he spawned after I went down for more dirt. After that, nothing else has spawned. Is this a problem after the most recent update?
EDIT: I may have screwed this up myself... I didn't set up grass way up there. Its just dirt. This could be my problem. I'm going to work that out now, and I'll edit if it works later.

Monsters cant spawn in front of you you have to be i think 20 or more blocks away from where there spawning thats why when you went for more dirt a creeper spawned so just go do something else and then check back there after a while
pretty sure the creeper spawned during the night... since I came down when it started getting dark, did a couple things around the house, then slept before going back up to finish the work and he was up there.
As far as the grass goes... I'm thinking you are right, but I haven't gotten the grass all the way up yet, so I don't know if that solved the problem.
Pretty sure you cant get passive mob spawners on xbox yet? unless you mod the game?
Not a mob spawner as in what you find in dungeons, but rather a mob trap where you build an artificial construct that's ideal for mobs or monsters to spawn on that then automatically kills them and funnels the dropped items into a convenient spot.
If you have other grassy areas besides your passive mob spawner, you'll need to till all the grass around the area and that should clear up all the animals, forcing them to spawn inside your spawner.
My biggest issue was the grass problem. On my game, I STILL haven't gotten the grass to grow all the way up to the top of the spawn flat, but its going that way. I built a smaller version in a hillside on my wifes game and it worked like a charm. We actually stacked it on top of a small aggro mob spawn area, and both sets of creatures spawn regularly and work their way into the drowner trap we created. Chickens don't drown though. I can't find a way to make the lil guys get stuck and drown. Thinking of adjusting it to have a lava blade at the end, instead of a drowner that way I dont have to deal with floating chickens or the mobs glitching and living longer than they should in the drowner.
Its not the best way to collect drops, but there's usually a few gunpowder, several feathers and bones at the catch area. Leather and porkchops aren't as frequent, but they've been retrieved, so I know it works on both levels. I'll see if I can get her to take a few screens and I'll pop the images later tonight.

Retired StaffI have a passive mob spawner and it works well. Dont know why you couldnt have one? When 1.8 comes it gets harder.
