my guess and remember this is a guess, is that it will be free. I say this because why would anyone pay for the things they get free on pc? I for one wouldnt bother getting a skins pack if I had to pay for it becuase I can change skins on the pc for free.
But this is not the PC version.
We can buy, not buy or try and find some thing else to use, but it is still Microsoft's option to set their prices on their system. They run the servers, and own the network that the game system runs on.
I just hope it is not to high since I would like to add skins to my game world, but so far I have not seen the skins that would make me pay more than 240 points, and If I don't see some more and better skin options I may still opt out; As much as I wan't more skins.
Don't forget, those everyday people would probably charge as well...but they can't because thats illegal. Because they don't own rights to minecraft, they can't sell property created from it. I promise you that most WOULD if they could. 4J, and microsoft, CAN sell those things as a part of the deal they made with Mojang.
Actually they can charge you for PC skins if they wish. Most do it for a sense of community. There is no way to protect them after they are used by the first person, but they could still sell their work. You don't have to own Minecraft to make money from user created skins. They probably could not create packs loaded with like say 40 characters that are property of say Marvel, DC or another company that has to protect copyrights and trademarks, but they can do one off artistic items as per court rulings in the United States and be legal.*
The problem is that There is no way to get them into the Microsoft network without modding, and that is contrary to the Terms of Service.
*This was based on a court case that ruled an artist could do a painting based on a golfer preforming his sport, (I.e. driving a ball off the tee) without a license since that was artistic expression, but that the artist could not mass produce prints based on this artwork with out a license from the golfer to use his image. Wish I could remember the case name.
OK so for the whiners about 3 measly bucks. 1. If you don't wanna pay for the skins it's simple don't. 2. This is XBLAMC not the pc version. Too many people complain about pc to xbox comparisons if it's so horrible on xbox get it for pc and quit the xbla version.
Xbox live rewards also is an option for those who dont/cant pay ... go earn some free points I'm sure 240 isn't too hard to earn
Well, guess I get to remain plain Steve. Not complaining about the money but I would have bought them though had they been 160 or 80 points. (Honestly I will just wait for them to cool off and let them go on sale one month then buy them.) Plus Plain Steve will be one of a kind lol.
Serious Question though, If my second player into my server has a custom skin does that make the 3rd player joining Tennis Steve if they dont have a custom skin?

As far as I know, After 1.7 you can choose between the 8 skins already in the game. So I am guessing you'll all spawn in as steve if you don't have the skins
