Again you don't read what I say I said nothing about infinite resources i was merely talking about world size. I can't tell if you're being serious or just trolling.
Once again, you are missing the point of this entire thread, ITS NOT ABOUT WORLD SIZE. This thread is about having limited resources and unless we have an infinite world, we will always have limited resources, which is why this thread was started. Read the OP and you will see what the problem is. We are just simply trying to find a solution to the problem of limited resources.

I know that but someone in this thread did ask about world size in general and I was just repeating what 4J said on Twitter about world size that's why I answered just about world size and if it will be enlarged
One of the solutions that I have discussed previously (not my idea) is to have portals that link worlds together. It is an elegant solution to the hardware and file size limits of the XBox. You build a portal that links 2 world together and you can cross between those worlds as needed, bringing any resources you want with you. The worlds can be saved in 2 separate save files which would produce a small loading time between worlds, but would allow you access to unlimited (or at least substantially more) resources.

I like the idea of portals though chests may be simpler to make and easier to hide the challenge with this is to make the game still challenging on newly created worlds an idea i came up with is to use a fully explored map and rare mining resources such as lapis to make it challenging to make the world chest/ portal and also seeds should be limited to one of these portal/chests each so as to not have players finding diamonds and spaming the world seed to gather lots of materials.
on a side note im sure the maps will grow but remain limited. though i doubt they will let you use all of your memory on minecraft.
I too like the portal idea(I have no snow on my map).
Unfortunately the in the current format it won't work. Nether generation is saved to the overall map file, and thus limited to the file size.
This leads me back to my original solution. A Bio-bomb
Reorganize a chunk as you see fit. Crafting items would determine type of biome. If there was anything in that chunk, built or otherwise it would get destroyed. Cost to build, high. But rewards vast.
Like the genesis device in Star Trek II
No file size problem.

Seatbelts are not as confining as Wheelchairs. Buckle up.
another solution though limited is that each world consists of 6 files that make up a cube so you don't find invisible walls you just transfer to a new game file each side would have a different nether this is one of the less permanent options but it also gets rid of the annoying invisible walls
also maybe a simple solution such as just allowing players to carry their inventory in between worlds
"World Size ( )Large [HDD Required]" would work, I think. People griping because they only have a memory card would be... oh, about like people griping because you need a high-def TV to play split-screen.
If people have also had an experience with this problem it would help to post so we can maybe raise a little more awareness for the problem. the more awareness for the problem the more likely Mojang and 4j will act towards a solution. Vote on ideas you like and maybe it will eventually be implemented. in the past minecraft has changed because of fans maybe collectively we can do the same.
Thanks
Recently among my friends on Xbox that play Minecraft I've noticed a trend where the limited amount of space restricts the resources or in some cases eliminates some resources entirely. For me the bigest problem is the glowstone, there is such a small amount i am restricted with what i can do. In another instance is my friend was given a seed with no snow environment, so he was left without any snow or dark wood. I would like to brainstorm on solutions to the problem. One of the solutions i've come up with is a chest much like the ender chest that only helps you trade materials between different worlds. this would add more adventure back into the game i think. Anyway what are your thoughts and solutions.
1) When you start a new world, slap it on peaceful and run around checking off items if you care that much
2) I don't care if you don't like the dupe glitch, it's there and has it's uses, I personally use it for the really really rare stuff (Glowstone, Mossy Cobble/ Clay Bricks etc) Because there is just not enough of some stuff to go around.
3) Start worlds over and over again until you find all the items you like, it doesn't matter how pretty the environment is, because there will always be a prettier one.
That's me put my bit in.
Now that's how you toll! Nicely done, sir. It sounds sincere, yet filled with all the right controversy and backwards thinking.
Some great ideas here with the chests, portals, and multiple save files. I hope devs are reading.

This is exactly what I do. I search worlds for materials before I play. If my world is missing something, I start a new one.
I also only play on worlds generated with seeds, so that way I know exactly what I'm getting. Many seeds in the Seeds List have confirmation of things like sugar cane, cactus, clay, etc.
It doesn't need to be seemless, but I need to be able to transfer stuff between them.
My sentiments exactly. I don't need a perfectly seamless transition from one world to another. Honestly, I think the biggest hurdle with the portal idea that I mentioned would be in multiplayer as I don't think you can have 2 save game files working simultaneously (i.e. you can't be in the 2nd world while your buddy is still in the 1st one).

Another solution i've come up with is an alternative inventory that allows you to bring items to another world but once put in your alternative inventory you can't take it out until you've accessed another world. Or on the other hand maybe a back pack that increases your inventory size allows you to transfer items but is limited to one to five blocks of storage depending on what material its made of.
by the way the duplication glitch WILL be patch its not a question of if and the point of minecraft is not to waste time searching for map seeds on the internet with all the resources you need you should be confident when you create any world seed that you should have access to those resources.

I was scared that I wasn't going to find any cacti on my world since it was filled with snow and lakes until I hit a very small desert near the edge of the map and found a couple. I would prefer the world to be maybe two or three times bigger especially once they implement the adventure update.
Here is a list of resources that are limited or at sometimes non-existent.
Pumpkins
cactus
glowstone
clay
sugarcane
mossy stone
snow
pine trees
soul sand
Ive actually had the exact same idea about the chest in each world so that you could get more of the other resourses. its a great idea and we would still have to find the resources and dig them up, but at least we would have infinite.
Yeah, but most of those grow into more if you can find some. Not glowstone or mossy stone, obviously. Snow will come back if you can find the correct biome, and trees will drop saplings.

I used to have an open mind, but then my brain fell out.
Another idea circulating is to add the technic pack to the game I personaly don't like this idea i think the simpler the idea the better if you want the technic pack opt for it to become a mod on xbox
I know, this would be a great idea.
I need sugar cane for my world, I don't know why I didn't think of it before... But the tutorial world doesn't come with any. I didn't realise this until I'd built an insanely huge mob arena, huge base, huge farm, automated lights...
And now I can't do anything requiring sugar cane. FML...
Maybe they should give us all a code or something that updates our inventory with a few items that can be regrown so we can use it for, I.e. cactus, get one cactus and turn it into 100 cactus...
Sugar cane is in the second village. If you stand facing the MINECRAFT logo in the sky, it's to your left and a little behind you--there should be sugarcane in a little garden.
I started my Tutorial world after the first patch, but before the July patch, and it was there, it should be there for you too.
cactus re-grows and so does sugarcane (pumpkins in a future update) also snow regenerates on the ground when there's snowfall and pine trees are infinite with saplings.
How does cactus regrow when the whole map doesnt have 1 single piece for you to farm and make lots more<?
