I mean obviously they need the money to make it. Don't compare the skins and texture packs to the ones on PC because those are made by FANS so they're going to be free. They actually have to pay employees and stuff so I don't mind buying the DLC. It's not like it's going to be over 10$
I'll pay between 80-160 MSP for the skins but if it's over that then I'm straight w/Default Steve and no you're not the only one willing to pay for DLC. there was a whole discussion on these forums the past week about paid DLC and the majority would pay(myself included) but only if it's worth it
You're not alone. It takes time and effort to make them, and like you said, they have to pay the employes for doing so. I'm sure if you had to design some of the skins you'd want to be payed for doing all that work, even if it just took a couple hours to make some (especially since the game is so popular). My guess of the cost for the skins would be 80 - 160, maybe 240 Microsoft points.
But Notch also has employees and he doesnt charge anything but to buy the game. 4J studios may have employees, but the game itself made them bank. Paying for skins would be great, but I say do something to setup your skins and texture pack through the xbox website, 4j website, or xbox itself for a price like the halo extended fileshare you had to pay for that feature. even still if they need the money its not the real deal here, your getting skins that could appeal to you, but in the true nature of minecraft you need your skin's you have grow to love just have us to pay like 40MSP for every time we change it. I would be fine with any of these.

mojang are still making game sales...every day. But thats not what keeps em floating. Here is how it works, a company makes a game. They get money for the game. Now, if they wanna stay floating and paying their team, they gotta keep making games. Mojang are making something else, obviously, even now. Probably just a few ideas, with some small, floating builds around the office, but rest assured that for Mojang to KEEP paying people...they too need money like everyone else. They aren't using their full staff resource on updating minecraft, obviously, at this point. Think of how many updates have come in the last year. Think of how long new ones are taking.
4J is focused on THIS game for right now. I'm sure they have other projects too, but this is their most recent and, therefore, the focus of their team. Sales may have been RELATIVELY high for the game, but its not even half of what PC minecraft has sold. And its profit is being split between them, Mojang, and MS....most likely with THEM coming out on the low end of that deal. Even if they took the largest chunk...its pretty clear they have got to be able to make money in other ways from this game to even BEGIN to touch the profit margins of Mojang and build their own company up.
I dont mind paying for DLC. Of course, with things such as Halo 4 and Assassins Creed on the horizon one must save. Because I fully intend on getting the the $100 dollar versions of these games and I fully intend to save every penny from then until now to get them.
So, long story short.
As long as the price is say, under 800 microsoft points, maybe 400 depending on when it comes out, then I might consider getting it after buying the trial and taking a look.
For non-critical stuff (skins or avatar rubbish) they can charge, i wont be buying it, but those who wish to part with M$ points can do so till their cuddly hearts are content and they get a warm fuzzy feeling all over
Critical things like updates that adds things like pistons (thats all I can think of) etc, should be free, as it is. I would asume the hefty 1600 msp price tag is because they had the updates in mind. I believe that is how it is too.
So I have no issue with being charged for DLC in that case, im sure some of the skins will be free anyway, ill just have the free stuff as i have no intention in paying any more money on this game. Before I do that, I'll just get the PC version and be done with it.
4J as already staated that updates will be free.
Skins, Texture packs, and the like will be sold as DLC for a price...
They've already said they'll have free "trial" versions for the skin packs which will contain a few skins from eaach DLC
I have no problem paying extra for skins or texture packs. That's above and beyond the normal updates, so they should be paid for the extra work.
I won't be buying them, cause I could care less about "skins" and am quite happy with the default texture pack.
I have no problem paying for DLC, but I highly doubt that I'll lay down any money solely for skins. A skin editor, definitely, but I won't be paying for a skin pack unless there's something really special about it. I'll gladly pay for texture packs and mods or XBox exclusive game modes.
Honestly, I would prefer it if they simply added a skin editor to the title screen or something, I use a custom skin that I made myself using the skin editor for pc minecraft and I would really like the ability to use that skin on my xbox minecraft as well. I think it would be pretty simple to do as well, and everyone gets the skin they want.
I have no problem paying for mod's and texture packs as DLC. Character skin's I don't have any debate over seeing how they dont interest me in the slightest.
I should have bought Minecraft for my PC. Now M$ will try and suck money from me untill the end of time for things basicly free to the PC crowd. I am a creative guy, i could easily make cool skins on my own on the computer(even liscenced characters). Everyone makes bad choices i guess.
I have no problems paying for something like this as long as the price is reasonable. I live in the real world and understand that developers use microtransactions like these to fund developement projects.
