It's probably nothing. You'll come across them eventually, even if it takes days. Animal droughts sometimes happen. Here's some useful information: Very rarely, new animals can spawn in already generated chunks... When animals spawn in this way, they do so only on grass blocks with light level 9 or greater above them. - Minecraft Wiki. So it is less common for animals to spawn in generated areas rather then non-generated/unexplored ones.

For some reason that happens to me on Gargamel too. One minute, animals are everywhere. Another, they all dissapear. I usually dont care but one time i counted how long it took for that big burst of animals. it took about 1 week in game time.

I've noticed animal droughts as well. Then boom, sheep everywhere. Saw a wolf for the first time today. That's almost two weeks without bow-wow
