I found 1 by accident dig down all the way down to the bedrock then count the fisrt bedrock as Layer 1 then layer 2 then layer 3 then layer 4 each block is a layer count till u get to layer 10 and dig around there thats where i found my slime
I suppose they spawn when you have enough room around bedrock layer. I've had some naturally spawn in my world after I got rid of some lava then left the place, did w/e for a few days, then at some point built a branch mine (and built bridges in peaceful nether), and expanded it, but it ran into that cavern where I got rid of the lava. Hello slimes!
I've found them from bedrock up to level 18. The bedrock room was about 6 high, 10 wide, and I don't know how long. We had made a huge tunnel, and later it was full of slimes. The one at 18 was only 3 high, maybe 10 by 10. It's less reliable about spawning slimes, but I do get a few medium sized ones every once in a while in that area.
I don't know if it's been fixed yet, but last I tried, you have to shoot them with arrows to get them to split, and then when they are in the smallest form, you can use anything to kill them. If you use something besides arrows on big or medium, they just die, providing you with nothing.
research them before you even dig for them. Biggest mistake people make when looking for slimes.
