on the seed 'worstseedever', theres a room just below the spawn area that normally holds about 100-125 (i forget the actual count) I've never seen a bigger plot than that one, although I'm sure they exist.
If you found that many in one spot... consider it awesome... and make alot of stew.
Was this a room you discovered early on or have you been playing the map for a while? And if you've been playing for a while, was this cavern in a place you spend the majority of your time building/mining in?
Because it's likely that a mushroom area that was already a considerable size to begin with just had plenty of time to expand while you had the chunk in memory for a long time.
At any rate, yes, that's a pretty impressive amount of mushrooms to find without farming them.

I'm actually using the seed right now, I've found a lot of interesting things on that map but never a room with 100 mushrooms.
Yes. You've just gained a huge supply of great food, mushroom stew (assuming you have both red and brown mushrooms). All in one cave? That's amazing! The most I've ever found was around 60 in one cave... consider yourself lucky.
I found this one area that was maybe 20 or so above bedrock and it was filled with so many mushrooms... I didn't bother to collect them all but there must have been a good 500...
I know in the tutorial world if you go to the secret village somewhere around there you can find a patch of 30 red mushrooms above ground. Which is pretty cool since they are rarer.
