New obsidian tools. We should be able to make full armor and full tools of obsidian. Much more better then the diamond's.
New acid liquid. Acid is just like lava it can hurt you but instead of lighting you on fire it just damages you when you touch it. Acid can be found 100 blocks deep underground. If you have a bucket of acid you can create a mob trap with it as well.

As for the acid idea that sounds interesting but not sure it goes with the semi realistic qualities of the Minecraft world. Random acid pools aren't too likely but lava and water is.
would be nice but since water lvl is at 66 u can never get down 100 levels bedrock is at 4&5 from your map coordinates. The maps are only i think 128 high from bedrock.

If they lasted twice as long but broke blocks faster than stone/iron tools but not as fast as Diamond, that would be fantastic.
