Any game that is open world and can be modified REQUIRED to have some anti griefing feature. Hell the indie games have at least something, and Total Miner: Forge, has an amazing anti griefing feature. So where am I going with this...oh yeah why does a $3 game have such a great anti grief system while a $20 dollar game didn't do some research/implementation of such a system right from the start. I mean it is evident from the PC version it is needed and it is evident that it was needed on the indie games. So again why doesn't MCE have it to start with? and will it have it in the extremely near future.
the second question is more directed at 4J, and if so what will it entail.
You know I keep hearing there are problems with people getting griefed. All I think is, why would people keep people that grief around? I mean, I have one guy who griefs but it will never be more than like a big upside down cross or a shrine dedicated to some random cult or something. I would say watch who you let in the server.
Of course, not that it was that bad, I tend to work by myself since I generally don't trust people I don't know personally, so when they are in my world I save right off, and don't bother building while people like that are in my world. I would like to do an open world but be able to protect areas from others or protect others stuff like you can do on Total Miner. I also just figured that since this obviously is no PC game where you can add anti-griefer software to your server that just maybe it would be one of those included features since it is not possible on a Xbox. Not to mention the fact that part of game development is taking a look at competitors, even if you don't consider the the indie versions competitors, they still show some potential in areas that MCE is obviously lacking.

Its not all about just watching who you let in it is also about letting everyone in to see niffty creations. and vice versa on others servers to further better what you can create.
I Like griefing. Not because im a griefer, but because, when done without hacks, its fun to defend against. Also, its an open world game, so if i want to go out and be a "criminal" and blow up my neighbors house (IG Of course), i should be able to. Its why i like vanilla servers.
1. Kick those you don't know
2. Turn off auto save
3. Save map when unknowns join. Then decide to kick or play. If things go amuck, don't save.
4. Switch to invite only
5. Clean out your friends list. If friends grief, guess what, there not friends.
6. Don't recreate the Mona Lisa at the initial spawn point. Make a make due base, signs posts rules and buiild primo elsewhere.
7. Don't leave the game alone without saving first(duh).
7. Don't Leave a stack of tnt readily available with a sign saying lit me.
I know the frustration of turning a corner and discovering someone is or has been doing the nasty. Undoing what took forever to gather and build. But that was sooooo long ago and in a different game. Your rant is pointless. Welcome to xbox live if it is your first day.

So far I think everyone is missing the point. Griefers are out there no matter how you slice it, they can't be avoided. To some point, @ frdrake, griefing is fun, but some things deserve to be protected, @ RandomFires, the Mona Lisa Recreation. Also @ RandomFires, those are not Anti-griefer features, those are back up features and do not prevent someone griefing while some else is creating something astonishing that can either be left, but with a griefed area or return to before any griefing. Anti griefing, at least what I am refering to is being able to go x 10 to x100 by z10 to z100 == no modifying, just as it is on the PC version with Bukkit, or as I mentioned in the OP Total Miner.
@Crymerge, the point is I do want people in my game, anyone that can create something half way decent wants to show it off, other than just pictures, cause lets face it, its one thing to see the Dauntaless (sure I spelled it wrong) in a picture, and a totally another to walk around in it, but if is missing a huge chunk out of it, is it a griefer, or did some other star gate creation blast the living **** out of it...lol.
Believe it or not, griefers have become an integrated part of the Minecraft society. I'm not saying it's socially acceptable (rather...it is!), but think about how a system can prevent griefing. How does the game know that you'll suddenly twist the world upside down and destroy every block you see? It doesn't. Honestly, RandomFires kept it pretty straight with the best tactics when avoiding griefers. Just because some third-party indie games were able to keep a system doesn't mean Minecraft is...well, capable of it. Too many servers & worlds, vast endless horizons, and you have unlimited ways to protect yourself. Even though no one likes grieifng (unless you have that dark side in you that must be fed regularly), it's nothing conspicuous due to how natural it is in MC.
I have had a few people do some unsavory things in my game like one person building a giant swastika, another raiding my house and stealing enough diamonds to make diamond armor and tools(at least they left me some...), but again i consider all of these my fault. They joined my game and i didn't keep an eye on them. All i would like is the option to keep a game open to friends to join but not friends of friends(a friend of a friend is the one who stole my diamonds).
And we all play pranks on each other in my game, we either save first if we know something is coming, or help the person rebuild. It is all in good fun.
The thing I find interesting is that only friends may join your world, meaning it's the company you keep that griefs your world. There's actually a really good system in place for dealing with those bad apples. Delete them from your friend list if they can't respect your rules.
Now I understand that friends of your friends may also join your world if their friend is playing there. If these are the griefers, make it clear to your friend that if their guests don't behave, you'll give em the axe.
Antisocial behavior is in us all, whether we repress it or not. The city I live in is vandalized by people everyday, and whn the city cleans it up, people go right back to the same places and deface it anew. Many systems are in place to circumvent this, yet the problem persists. So I take matters into my own hands... When some fool tries to paint on my house, I go outside an wave my sword at them, or shoot blanks from my black powder rifle at them. This works for me, perhaps you can adapt that method to your gameplay.
Additionally, you may set the game to invite only, or play offline. Two very effective countermeasures implemented by the developers. Another wise thing to do is save your game when someone enters your world.
Wow building with bedrock... Kinda pointless worrying about griefers when you ummm... mod the game.Oh,, side note. All someone has to do is throw you a friend request, and they can also join your world if you have it open.

So you let people grief your world without kicking them? That is super smart. Me and friend grief on each other but he always saves, it is kinda fun sneaking around and fighting each other.
@ thegoon No not mad.
@InfestLithium As a programmer myself, I know that I would be incredibly simple to implement even the most rudimentary anti griefing system that could save a ton of people trouble. It could be as simple as.
This is a most basic form but something taking up a few lines of code can make a hell of a difference. The hardest part of this is figuring out the proper GUI in the menu to do it, then only the owner of the world can edit permitted editing zones. This simple can be used to protect completed areas so you don't have to worry about what random people are doing, even people not on your friend of a friend of a friends list. This could even make it so you can have a vault to place the most valuable of stuff, and because they cannot edit in that specific area, having that 9 digit combo now seems more reasonable since people can't just break down the door the redstone opens.
@2stoned really.....bedrock?
@ everyone I know there is counter measures like playing offline, invite only and saving before allowing people to roam free. What my point is....dramatic pause....is why not have some as rudimentary as ( if in this zone x1 x2 z1 z2, no one can edit).

In this game nothing is pointless, lol What if i had to go do something And someone joined without me knowing..That's where the box comes in,lol
O, and B.T.W the box is the only thing i will mod in cause its unique and different.. Kinda sounds like your jealous, lol

Yup...Bedrock! I choose if i want them in or not by throwing them 2 pieces of glass.
It's got a window to so they can look at my build's.
