If that's how you feel then maybe we should be paying for every update made to the game since they are putting in "work" that they should be getting paid for.
We really should, but 4J was generous in this regard. Wanting free DLC packs as well is just getting greedy.
If that's how you feel then maybe we should be paying for every update made to the game since they are putting in "work" that they should be getting paid for.
Why would I feel that way when, before buying the game, I knew it would be updated to the PC, (or, at least very close, given that the PC keeps updating AND there is a rather large fee attached to updates a company wants to launch on XBOX. MS cut 4J a lot of slack knowing it would have to update a lot early on...I expect that slack will run out before minecraft PC stops updating.), for free. The deal, going into this sale, was that those prime updates would be free. Texture packs, Skins, and even other game modes are not part of teh free Vanilla updates. Its really not hard to discern the difference here.
Listen to me VERY carefully. Typically, microsoft charges a pretty large fee for adding content downloads to XBLA. Dungeon Defenders devs, I think it was, said that the cost was somewhere between 10,000 USD and 40,000 USD each time they wanted to and expansions. The discrepancy there is probably from file sizes, but it doesn't matter WHY because even a 10,000 dollar loss is huge if you aren't being compensated. Now, MS has given 4J a larger number of "free" tokens, basically, to add content. They, at this point, can choose to use those for actual game updates, or silly skins and textures. I think its rather obvious which is the right one to choose. They probably could release some of this stuff for free, but its shortening the leash they were given.
Now I can hear you all in the background saying, "But they sold millions already? Whats a 10,000 USD loss to them?". For starters, in the area I live in thats a large enough loss to warrant laying off a few people where I work to be certain you maintain a proper profit margin. Its also enough to dip into any health benefit programs they may have. Just because they made millions doesn't mean they are actually seeing even a third of it. Now Notch, back when he was at the helm of Mojang and working solo....he made nearly pure profit during the alpha sales. Naturally, he put that money back into his company to staff and support his growing ideals. But a full scale operation is gonna rake in way less.
TLDR : Core game updates are PART of the initial sale. Other stuff ain't. No, its not feasible to take a loss on adding free crap. If you think so, seriously look into running a business of your own. Make some silly CYOA game and see what it takes to really sell even something like that. Then look into what it takes to advance the pretend company from there.
I am on both sides in this, I think it should be free, if they are skins by the developers, but, I highly doubt that will happen. I would pay for a Skin Creator, or a Texture Pack Creator. I wouldn't pay more than around 400-800 for each but, that's neither here nor there. They should make something that is user interactive in the game, because that's what PC Minecraft is basically, and the xbox version was made to get close to the PC version itself. (Or atleast that's what they are saying they are doing.)
Now I can get behind this idea. I would actually prefer higher cost, larger scale, addons. I've talked about it in another thread already, so I won't repeat my thoughts on that subject, however.
If that's how you feel then maybe we should be paying for every update made to the game since they are putting in "work" that they should be getting paid for.
We paid for a completed and unbugged game.
Until we have that - our updates should be free.
To be fair I don't blame 4J. 4J doesn't control what content will be cost points, Microsoft does. I believe that if it were up to them 4J would either make a thing that let us create our own skins (for free) or make free skin packs. However since they can't make it free they're still making it so that players who want skins can still get them.
If I pay 1600 msp for an arcade game I shouldn't have to pay for DLC too.
This is the motto of Generation: Entitlement right here. I'm not saying you are of this age bracket, but kids these days demand that everything be handed to them because they apparently deserve it just for being born. I blame the parents that are my age for spoiling their little brats, never disciplining them or teaching them any values in life.
Sorry, but time is money. If I make/do something at work, I expect to be paid for it. I worked 40 hours last week and got paid... does that mean that because I made enough money last week, my employer shouldn't have to pay me this week?
Actually, if you do believe that to be a fair work system, I'd like to hire you for my company. You work for me for a few months, we make a lot of money once the project is completed. Then, I pay you your share and you continue working for me for free for the rest of your life. Sound fair? I'll send you an application.

What you've just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard. At no point in your rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.
To an extent I can agree with Jaszoon, but like others said, they need some source of income, the "Micro Economy."
Though we paid for this game, we can't expect everything free there on after.
I paid for Black Ops.
I paid for the Map Packs.
They could easily make them free like someone posted above, such as on the game "Total Miner"
They have character skins that are free, a bunch of them.
Any who, 2, 3 bucks out of my pocket for a few skins, big woop, go pick up some cans and sell those.
Im sure everybody will buy the map pack bc its new its only 1$ anyways ik u cant get 80 msp only so u goto spend 20$ anyways i understand what u feel there i dont have a job i cant get any bc i dont have experience (Im wondering how im gono get experience if nobody hires me lmao) and i only get money trhough either my school paying me money to take test, or by cutting the grass then i get 20$ i buy 1.6k msp and i save the rest for dlc like this thats why i have enough and i can buy the pack now but if i had not gotten 20$ i would not have any msp and ill be stck with teh Steve guy with the Suit i like that skin ;D
I am more than happy to pay for any DLC they make. Try to not forget that all of that 'free stuff' you get on PC is user made content, not official content made by Mojang. Now on the xbox, 4J will have to make every single piece of DLC, as such they are working and deserve to be paid.
In fact I HOPE that they charge for all DLC since nothing will encourage them to keep make more like a steady stream of cash rolling in.

I dont understand how you guys are getting mad about paying for skins? Yeah they are free on pc, thats because the game users makes them and then releases them for free.
Also 160 msp for 40 skins, i dont think you would find a better deal then that on any other xbox game.

Another point people like to forget is that, on PC, people aren't charging for skins because that is illegal. Anytime a player makes something for a game they don't own rights to, they have to release it free if they release it at all. Unless, course, certain permissions are given. I've seen Notch's, and other members of Mojang, tweet about things like that before...and their stance has always been "Hell no you can't make money off our game."
Now, since everything on the PC is a free release, most laws that govern intelligent property are lax about it. But 4J can't make a free skin release on any level. There is a fee that microsoft charges when a company wants to use their servers to add DLC to a game. So, to offset that loss they have to charge SOMETHING. The second they have to charge anything for it, they then have to work inside of those laws again. I suppose 4J could have used some of their "free passes" microsoft has allowed them, in terms of adding updates, for the skins. But then they would have less they could use on updating the actual game....which would be the stupidist thing they could ever have done.
I'm not gonna troll through all this arguing over a cheap update, so what I say may have been said already....
Things cost money. Developers, code writers, Microsoft employees, even a single patch on xboxlive arcade costs at least $40k just for Microsoft to begin their certification process.
If you don't want to pay, don't pay. It's as simple as that.

160 is a good price. I'll pay it.
One of the few coherent posts about this I've seen.
+2 cool points.

If anyone wants to play Bauldur's Gate (1, 2, or enhanced) or Icewind Dale PLEASE PM me. I'd like to play.
Besides, remember the old adage: "Careful of free stuff. It's free cause it's not worth paying for."
Heh! Reminds me of something an old boss told me years ago. "Nothing in life is free. If someone tells you something is free, the first question you should be asking is, 'how much is it going to cost me to get rid of it?' ".
Payiing for the content iis okay, you have to remember how much tiime iit take2 to make iit and every per2on need2 to be paiid for there work 2o payiing thii2 liittle iis really a good deal.
I like the idea of character skins at minimal cost, but FREE should be the choice considering the amount of revenue this game has brought to M$ & 4J, but billions is not enough for M$ so trillions is better. I Hope we see multiple Kings & Queens, Templars, Knights, Black Knights, White Assassins, Black Assassins, Archers, Pirates, etc... etc... I know some have been mentioned, I think.
