So far, every add-on on the Minecraft world, be it updates, skins, mods, etc. Are all free. If you guys decide to put out DLCs. Almost every Minecraft gamer will give you guys criticism for paid practices (no matter how cheap it is).
Minecraft is all about being free except, obviously, for the game itself. Minecraft is supposed to have the feeling of "free". Minecraft is in the spirit of being free. Sure, you can argue that multiplayer servers have hosts that charges money to its players, but those "charges" are not made by official game developers but by gamers themselves.
My best advice. Make the DLCs absolutely worth its price and so far.. Skin DLCs? Please... 4J, you're better than that. Everyone practically knows that it is easy to develop a free alternate way if you guys chose to do so.
Dont get me wrong, I love you guys. However, I know that there is absolutely no moral compass when extra money is in the equation. I might get banned for saying this..
4J is not some kid in a garage pumping out stuff for free so he can get some name recognition.
As for it's "suppose to have the feeling of 'free'", I've never had a kid come to my door offering to mow my lawn for free. I don't expect 4J or anyone else to work for nuthin.
Besides, remember the old adage: "Careful of free stuff. It's free cause it's not worth paying for."
It shouldn't be free but they could have went another route with skins. Such as releasing a skin editor so people can make theif own skins they could have charged more for the initial download of the editor, and I think most of the community would have supported that decision. They could have even done something similar with texture packs.
Maybe even introducing something thats similar to the way rockband was setup where users could submit their songs they made to a review board, and if they passed you could purchase them for a small amount of money (the creator even receives a small percentage of the profit) Only in this case it would be skin packs and texture packs. So you could make your own or download others creations and not be limited to the ones put out by the developers.
People have been asking for skins so it's not like they are forcing them on us. Just like anything else in life, if you want it be prepared to pay for it somehow.
Oh it better be free. I'll be pissed if I paid $20 for the same game as PC and still have to fork out more money to get what they did for free. There will be hell to pay.
It's not going to be free they already confirmed that (why else would there be trial skins in the skin packs?)
The most we can do is post up suggestions, such as the one I posted a few posts up, and hope someone at 4J takes notice and maybe implements it or something similar.
They could just make an add-on for Minecraft that gives you another menu (singleplayer, multiplayer, downloadable-content, settings) this could then lead onto some software like dropbox which allows you to put PC mods, etc, onto your xbox. This would be a one-time payment and therefore both teams win. Of-course there is one problem, which is the cost to keep it running and to even make this so that the mods, etc, install.
I don't see heavy criticism from this due to a vast majority of the people playing on Xbox are already used to addons and such requiring additional money. If all of them came from PC then by all means the riots would occur in the temple of Notch.

Here's the problem with the skins should be free theory, someone has to make these skins for the 360 version. Someone will have to code at a desk for a decent amount of time, someone will have to WORK to get these skins ready for the 360 version. Someone will have to be paid for that effort, and I know most people (myself included) don't like to work for free. I have bills to pay and mouths to feed, and it is quite difficult to do on a salary of $0.
Just food for thought, everything that is necessary for you to play the game will be free (updates). If you want to customize your character then you'll just have to fork out the money. Welcome to the real world people.

Well if they want money I want to be able to move my own files such as mods and skins over to the Xbox via usb. So all 4j has to do is enable a mod manager. They can charge Xboxs users for that and I would feel its appropriate. And possible a "Edit Character" app in the DLC and I would not mind buying that. Anyone agree?

I'm sure 4J would do it in a heartbeat... however Microsoft has a very strict no modding policy, which is most likely the reason 4J had to go in this direction. You have to remember everything 4J wants to do on the xbox has to be ok'd by Microsoft.
I personally couldn't be happier with the current system they have planned. All the version updates are free, and all the purely-cosmetic stuff is pay-for. That's a beautiful thing right there.
I will give them no such critisim, and I'm both a PC player and an Xbox 360 player.
Things like skins, texture packs, and mods are free on the PC because they are made by regular people in the community. Those people have other ways of making money, ie, AdFly and asking for donations. On the Xbox version, it's a studio of people whose job it is to do this stuff. They need to get paid because it's their livelyhood. The people who do it for the PC do it as a hobby or something fun. It's 4Js job. Also, it's Microsoft. Everyone playing Minecraft should feel like the luckiest people in the world that we got updates full of tons of content for free. So I have no problem paying for DLC because it rewards their hard work.
oh stop your wineing. Do you realy think for one second they care about what you say? Do you even think they know what Minecraft is? Well I know, and they dont care. They are people who spend there whole lives trying to get money. They took one look at the name "Minecraft" and instantly thought " we will make at laest $5,000,000 off of that name. they dont even know that the game doesnt have any specific goal, all they know is that free or not, people would still pay for texture packs and skins(even though they dont know what tgose are). I know that I will buy them. you dont have to, but I will. this is the circle of industry.
P.S. Im talking about Microsoft, not 4J. I love 4J, you guys rock.
