I've found two possibly more caves, what are my options? fill every nook and crany of them dirt so nothing will spawn in them or fill them with torches so only slimes will spawn in them, I don't think they are in the slime chunks though.
I got a question about slime spawning. I have a suitable slime farm area but how long(average) does it take for one large slime to spawn?
I always check and I never get one single slime.

Depends on all the given factors.
1: Slimes are rare, they have a low % chance to spawn.
2: If other mobs are around (caves etc) These other mobs take up spots where slimes couldve spawned.
3: Distance, you must be further than a 24 block radius around the player away from your slime area.
4: Must be in a slime chunk for a slime to spawn.
All these come into play (as mentioned in the first post)

Sometimes it can take awhile, sometimes not.
Thanks, although #2 will be a problem. I used a chamber to make this an easier thing to do. But thanks, I'll work on it now. +1 that was helpful
I build a slime-farm with a friend on the 360 version. Didn't seem to work at first ... but suddenly, slimes began to spawn. We didn't use that helpfull tool someone so kindly provided ... So I was pretty pleased
Anyway, I could use some help.
My worldseed is : GARGAMEL. I'm trying to find the exact coordinates where to start digging. Whats the best spot? How big does this room have to be?
Refer to page 1 =) Theres info on using the tool in my first post, with extra info from RandomFires I added. And in post 2 is a guide with pics from AR3
When pistons come out I'll get to work on a guide on making a working farm.
I see people talking about using a site to chcek if your seed has Slime Chunks. I made a random seed as I was a first time user of MC and had no idea what that meant. Am I now screwed to finding any Slimes? Built so many huge well lit rooms underground with no success.
Nope you aren't screwed. In the next update (due to hit soon) you will be able to see your seed (think on a loading screen when entering your world) so you can get it from that.
Or just randomly dig and hope one spawns

Not cool. Attitude is one thing, wrong info another.
If you have no seed, wait for the update(any day now) which will tell you.
Slime are in specific chunks. If you just dig anywhere you could be digging in the wrong spot, and you will never see slime in the hole you just dug.
At the very least, dig where you "find" slime.
That's why there's a slime finder.
Every other "nerd" info, is to maximize your chances to harvest what is actually rare in the game. Almost all the info need is in the very first post, and is correct unlike what you have now suggested.

"sans-serif">Slime spawn in 10% of the world, if you mine 50 by 50 with how small the Xbox world is, you are going to get slime, and that's a fact.
i first made a slime farm dug down to bedrock ,, made a massive room .. nothing,... ever.. see below
i found some whilst farming cobblestone nearly have two full double chests of it .. next i gotta clear a hill near my house for a big castle thing or maybe a tower .. well not sure what yet .. may make a giant statue..
but digging a hole in random place is basically just trying to be lucky it doesn't work 1/2 the time whilst reading the first page of this thread (( which you should of done, but i don;t you did)) . random seeds right now ..>> random luck finding slimes.
whilst if you know your seed you can find where chunks are ..
As I said, a room 50 by 50 with a 4 block high wall, light it up and you will get slime, nothing lucky about it. 10% of all blocks are slime spawners. All that other stuff is just superstitious ritual.
And it's a no duh that if you have a seed you can put it in to that site. But you don't really need it...
Your room is only three blocks high and not 50 by 50. Also you are not four blocks above bedrock. Bedrock is not a slimespawner.
