If your mob trap is in the same vicinity then its most probably the problem, try lighting up your mob trap for the time being. Mobs instantly despawn at 128 blocks so im not sure walking that far away is gonna accomplish anything. By the sounds of it you wouldve been walking almost as far away from the slime farm aswell.

if mobs instantly despawn after 128 blocks, then why wouldn't it work? From the surface, my slime farm was about 50 blocks away (no, my slime farm is not on the surface). Or is 50 blocks plus 60 blocks down to far for them to acctualy just spawn (now that i have writen it out, it looks a whole lot farther away than before). I shall try disabling my grinder and better lighting my cave.
I think the first thing i will make with sticky pistons, is an on/off switch for my mob grinder.
Used this guide and got my first slimes last night. Thanks.

What you've just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard. At no point in your rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.

Sorry my lappy died lastnight and was too cold to get out of bed to get charger lol.
Was typing You said your grinder was near your slime farm (i just assumed it was directly above ground above the chunk in the sky) so moving 128 blocks from that you wouldve been moving 128 blocks from your slime farm.
And passive mobs wont have an effect on aggressive mobs. So your wolves are safe
Glad people are still finding it useful. I encourage everyone to post pics here rather than making new threads about slimes and if you could put them into spoilers it wouldnt take up much of the page.
great tut!
however, on my world, as well as my friend's world, when we kill the slimes, they're not dropping anything, even after they've split into the smaller slimes. is this a bug/glitch anyone else has come in contact with?
If you're not concerned with aesthetics or being able to switch your slime farm on or off (by flooding the spawn area with water), you can place torches on the floor of your spawn area and it will not affect your slime farm. I have been constructing my slime farm in my world that is only 16x16 and have torches spaced out across the floor about 3-4 blocks apart and I'm still getting solid slime production ~ about 150 slimeballs per visit.
Its explained on my first post. You enter your seed into it, it generates your map and shows you where slime chunks are located. When you mouse over the slime chunks it will give you the co-ords of the corners.
nice job party poison. your thanks are much appreciated im sure ar3 is grateful too. keep the screens coming guys it gives others a visual to see working slime farms. Still keen to come check out others farms just send me a request and a msg
the first lot are x and then z. so
112 x , -128 z to 128 x , -112 z. this is the 16x16 chunk you dig out at below layer 16 (y) your map has your xyz coords
Here's some motivation for ya Appreciate all the feedback, thanks for fazyedNZ for making this thread. it has reached over 15000 views and helped many people.

This is probably the mos confusing part of the "finder" as for I had the same issue trying to figure out why it would give you so many numbers when you only needed 2 coords, but is basically drawing out the entire chunk for you from "top left corner to bottom right corner" sort of speak.
I've got what I believe to be a slime-chunk related question. I think i have run into a naturally occuring slime farm; I keep finding slimes down there, so you know...
I need to do some clean up down there, about half the floor is lava; every time I wander in I see four or five giant slimes commiting suicide by self-immolation.
What I'm wondering about is the sound-effect I'm hearing. In a certain region of this area, I keep hearing a "spattering" sound. When I first entered this area, I noticed a fairly high ledge (maybe another room) above me. The sound seems louder in this area; occasional bits of green goo would come shooting over the ledge. I've tried getting up in this area and can't find the source of either phenomenon. I still hear the sound effect but I but see the goo anymore. Any ideas what I've found? I can't find any references to sounds effects in the wiki.

Also wanted to give an updated Picture ;P
