Well, if it's similar to how the PC version works, they'll only generate on land you haven't discovered/loaded. If you've been everywhere on your map, then yes you will have to start a new world.

I believe I am not wrong on this, even if you have undiscovered land, it's been generated, undiscovered land will not generate updated generations. I know it's doesn't show you the ''unloaded chunks'' and you can see it loading, but it's actually already generated, on the save file on your Hard Drive/ Cloud when it's loading the chunks for the first time, it's getting those ungenerated chunks from the save file and it's displaying it to you.
Don't want to cause any arguements but this was highly dbetated on the clay fix, and people didn't get their clay generated, even on un-discovered land ++ another well known member quoted 4J Studios as they have confirmed this.
They actually confirmed that you DO find clay in undiscovered parts of the map. It is only generated once you have been there. It will be the same with strongholds and villages, I assume. If you have undiscovered parts on your map, you can get terrain generation features, but if you have explored every part of your map, you will need to start a new one.
