I have a question regarding sand. In my world there is naturally floating sand with nothing under it to hold it up. of course the moment you mine one block anywhere near it, the whole group drops. Is there any way to recreate this effect? I am building a maze/puzzle type area and would love to have this for a trap in one of the dead ends but I cannot find a way to make the sand stay in the air until mined. Any thoughts? Or is this just an anomoly that can only be created through random world generation?
Well there is a way with torches. My brother placed a torch under where the sand would be, then another torch on the side of the sand. He continued doing this until he didn't want it any higher. It's kind of like a water barrier? I'm not sure if it works now, but it's worth a try!

you have to get water to remove the torches when the water is released. you usually use pistons to let the water go but you cannot do this currently because there is no pistons

There is a way with red stone to change to direction of the water flow, that should work but will take a little work..
