I have asked this question a few times here in random threads and also on twitter and never received any answer. Not sure if 4J hasn't seen it or maybe is not able to comment but here is my final plea to get understanding.
It's regarding World Size!
With the 1.8.2 update, supposedly we will be getting NPC villages, Abandoned Mine Shafts, Strongholds, Ravines, Rivers, Mountain Biomes, Deeper Ocean Biomes, and Swamps.
Then, in the 1.2.3 update we will see Jungle Biomes, Testificates having children if there is room in the village, mushroom biomes, etc.
Now, between these two major (and they are MAJOR) updates that is going to take up a ton of room on the maps for these space specific updates. I didn't mention the tons of other new things coming because I'm talking about space. Here is the burning question though, Do you think the current world size will be adequate to hold all of this new content? I have faith in the developers to figure something out but I still would like to hear their take on this subject cause it's something I think about a lot.
I would imagine if they also implemented the anvil update from 1.2.3 then that would help since the world height changes from 128 to 256 (granted minor differences in Xbox version).
I suppose world will expand...
I don't know why they say the Xbox cannot handle it. Of course it can! It's a GAMING console. A computer is a COMPUTER. It wasn't designed for gaming like an Xbox was. So, I agree. It should expand. Even if it isn't infinite...
Theres a size limit for game saves.... Cant have too much in there otherwise it will be too big to save. M$ have limits
The thread is getting a bit off topic. My question doesn't pertain to a question of if a larger world size is possible but rather is the world size adequate when all these new updates start hitting the game?

I think it's a valid concern.
Your right, it is a valid concern. I don't believe that the current world size is going to be adequate enough to handle those major updates you mentioned. They would to have to drastically limit the size and the occurrence of the stuff you mentioned. Probably smaller biomes and less villages and ravines and all that good stuff because of the world size limit.

a console is like a weeker computer specifically designed for games. a pc is actually better for gaming in general.

Ok, please...as I said before this isn't a discussion about wether or not the Xbox can handle a larger world. There are several different discussions about that in the forums already. Let's please stay on topic...the question is if the world size is adequate to hold all the new features and what we might expect to see in regards to this concern.
if they are going to add more stuff that gets created then they definitely need to enlarge the world more. Mainly because the combination of what they add along with what we add is going to be huge.
The could always give us a way to connect the worlds we have created.

^^^This would be a great way to deal with the problem, I'm not too savvy when it comes to computer code, but this seems like an easy way to solve issues with space.
Barring that, I don't see how we could even apply the updates in an aesthetically pleasing way , I just feel the map would be too crowded. I imagine you wouldn't even be able to dig down to bed rock without hitting 4 abandoned mines and digging into a couple ravines

Without the skin... Beneath the storm... Under these tears...The walls came down
The mistake a LOT of you are making is getting RAM mixed up with HD space.
The xbox problem is lack of ram, BUT.
They can make it bigger? YES 100% guaranteed!
There are minecraft clones on xbl which have HUUUUUUUUGE worlds, if a clone can do it then surely the official Mojang and Microsoft supported developers can.
I really dont think ram is the problem. My old laptop used to run minecraft well enough, and that thing had the same amount of ram as a 360..
but on topic the maps are already too small with what we have now lol. The new biome features will only make it worse
I agree w/you Johnny on how will they make those updates happen in such a small world and I did see on Twitter someone asked the question of having bigger worlds and their response(4JStudios) was "We're working on it and it could possibly happen"
My concern is map sharing, we're not allowed to share maps on here because of one little thing, having to resign our own ID's because 4JStudios did not make the saves profile interchangeable.
If the latter is done then sharing saves should be allowed due to no modification being requiered to use it.
On a side note what is allowed? Can we post links to blogs/web pages with maps? Or is that not allowed.
There are to many people speaking without evidence trying to make it factual. They have stated that this is Minecraft Xbox 360 edition not Minecraft on 360. Whether they expand the world, will not be the Xbox's power but how close they want it to be to the PC. I have no doubt the Xbox can handle large worlds, but I don't think they will be infinite. In my opinion they may add a world size option that way they can see the limits. But to the OP's question no the world as it is now will not be enough.
For the love of all things holy people...I didn't want this thread to be a debate about if the XBOX could handle bigger worlds. That was not the point of the thread.
At this point I think 4JSteve or 4JStu has seen this by now and they haven't commented my my original post concern. I can only imagine they don't want to touch this subject for some reason. That's too bad cause I was really hoping to get some feedback on this.
This may not be a strict policy to adhere to, so if this is what's holding back the size, they may make it configurable?
That is outdated, there are no memory units anymore, MS scrapped them when the new Xbox was released, so the max should be 16GB as this is the maximum you can get without an HDD.
I think they definitely will have to expand the world size somewhat to put all these new things in. The size is fine now but once villages, ravines, etc.. start going in it's really going to make the world seem small. You'll basically will be tripping over everything and not discover it like in the PC version.
World increased size might affect rendering. I've noticed the other indie titles (except totalminer?) can keep going, but the rendering distance kinda sucks.
OP, actually whether there is a debate, or totally irrelevant comments, at least the topic stays at the top most days...
Prevents multiple posts on the subject and you know they've read or seen it.
Personally I think the world size is just fine.

Seatbelts are not as confining as Wheelchairs. Buckle up.
And what about those people with Xboxes that do not have Hard Drives and who still rely on MUs?
That is not an issue anymore, if you cannot afford a £6 4GB USB pen then god knows.
Microsoft enabled the USB feature because the Memory units were to dear & Datel had hacked there security lol & there cheaper than a £6 USB so in the end its still outdated information & there is no excuse.
if for some reason there are still people out there using the smallest MU then tuff, just like 4JStudios did not enable Splitscreen for non HD TV's, people need to move with technology.
figroll said it, even the minecraft clones have infinite worlds, all on the xbox 360 console, its just a matter of draw distance.
you go and see some of the worlds people create, and you can still have a pretty large draw distance but you just get options to change it if it lags too bad.
they can use the "not enough ram!" excuse as much as they like, plenty of games have HUGE open worlds, with HUGE draw distances, skyrim, fallout, gta games whichever, all large open world games/sandbox which is similar to minecraft, and when you install these games onto the HD from the CD they run even better.
Are you comparing a game like Minecraft, where you can manipulate a randomly generated 1024x1024x128 world in any way possible, to a game where you just walk around on the map and kill people? Skyrim, Fallout, Grand Theft Auto? Please tell me where you can destroy it all or build incredible mansions in each of them.
minecraft must be coded pretty poorly if they have such limits in such a simple game.
Simple? Please tell me how much advanced electrical wiring you play with in all of the other video games.
we are talking about a game of blocks here.

To the untrained eye.
hopefully 4j do a good job with it and make it possible, but obviously as it is 1000x1000 (800x800 whatever) seems to be all it can handle, and i highly doubt thats because of the xbox.
Read what everyone else has been talking about. The 4 Splitscreen players moving in different directions, limited size of each save for those who don't have a hard drive, etc.
also on a side note the xbox doesn't even render the entire 1000x1000 world anyway, it renders it as you move closer to unexplored/unrendered areas,
I believe(but I am not 100% certain) that the MCXB360 Edition loads the entire world at the start, but has to load the visible things once they enter the viewing distance.
i dont see why they cant just expand it as it is, most likely due to lag in splitscreen/multiplayer, except that it already does lag horribly in both, more noticably if you start building away from other people all around the map.
It doesn't lag in both if you have a reasonable connection. However, the game will explode if they decide on infinite worlds.
so highly doubtful we will ever get bigger maps.
as they wont do it unless its solid for co-op/multiplayer.
