Just wondering if anyone has made one? I'm in the process of making one on top of my mob spawner/grinder. I'm currently waiting for the grass to spread up, and glass to bake. I need to make the funnel down to the killing room. I think I will use a lava blade like my mob grinder unless thats not advised. My mob grinder works flawlessly, so I figured why not try to get passive mobs on top.
Here are the pics, i'm currently building it now.
From the back. Three "steps" of spawning pads
From the rear of the highest pads.
Three water streams 2 blocks wide push the animals towards my house. Then they fall down the side of the mob tower, into a killing/collection room. At least thats the plan. If anyone has any advice, it would be greatly appreciated. I'm new to minecraft but am addicted now. I'll get better pictures when its further along, this gives you the idea though. Thanks

I was up all night with a rusty hammer, trying to build a fence around these magic beans my dreams have gathered.
I was planning too..but I don't feel like removing all the grass near me so I could have an efficient mob spawner. It will stop working at the 1.8 patch anyways but, i guess its convient for the moment. Good luck on it haha:D
I am dreading that too, but it looks LIKE I might not have to. It looks to be surrounded by enough water. My mob spawner is in the middle of a big bay. Its also on the roof of my mob spawner/grinder, so its quite high up. There is only one piece of land I might have to toy with.
Good signs, grass hasn't even grown yet and i'm just finishing the grinder. Thats 5 sheep
Question. When the sheep hit the lava blade, will they drop woll? And will it be burned? I guess i'll find out soon enough. Just about ready to connect the spawn pads and passive mob collection chamber to the grinder and item collector.

I believe that if sheeps drop through lava they drop 1 wool. Its not like when you shear it and it drops more. Well you've motivated me to start a passive mob system! 5 sheeps are a good sign. I think your good but make sure they can't jump out of the canals.
I figure why not. Worst comes to worst, whenever 1.8 finally does come out, I can use it as a breeder and still have a grinder haha.
So pigs fit thru 1 block high. Got my first one to spawn, followed my canals, dropped into the cooker, got burned once and slipped under the blade. Time to search some videos. Anyone have any tips?

P.s.
They said after the 1.7 update, they are jumping straight to 1.2.5... So you have one update left until whatever it is happens...
They are doing 1.7.3 then 1.8.2 Which will have creative mode. Search 4jStudios, 4Jsteve and 4jstu on twitter, you will come across it many times. They are however bringing forward some updates from further version into the earlier ones
They changed the way animals spawn, they only spawned in when the game loaded a new chunk of the map. If you were to kill all the passive mobs on a specific chunk, they wouldnt respawn so passive mob farms wouldnt work.
They wont despawn though, so you will have to "breed" them or walk to unloaded chunks to find them.
Cool i'll send you a friend request. I wouldn't mind checking it out. Thanks.
Anyone have any tips for taking out land and turning it to water? I'm thinking TNT and buckets. I do infact have too much grass around, its not very efficient at all. Oh well.

Surely the spawning should only affect new worlds?
So what happens if we kill every animal in the game? Sort of defeats the object really..
it affected old worlds on the pc version, so im gonna guess that it will be the same here. I really hope they add breeding to the 1.8 update, so we dont have to worry about our animals getting killed off. wild wolves seem to enjoy tearing sheep to ribbons on my world..
