My daughter recently bought Minecraft for the XBox 360, and was a little disappointed to find that she must play as the male character. Is there any way for her to choose the female character?
Also, we had created a world on my XBox user, and played splitscreen. She was unable to resume that world this morning playing on her character, unless I was playing with her in split-screen...
Aside from these (hopefully solvable) issues, we love the game and had a great time.
There are making Skins for DLC next month and I'm sure they will include some female skins with it.
Even if they add "female" skins, it's gonna be weird looking like a girl, but grunting and groaning like a guy. There was already a big thing about this on the pc forums complaining about this, and all Notch said was that he couldn't make a girl skin look girlish enough, but the complaints were not about looking like a girl (since you could make your own skins anyway) but rather always sounding like a dude.
Trust me, this really bothers my wife and two daughters...

Then you'll be happy to know that it won't always sound like a guy. In a later version, the sound is changed from a male "uh" to a bone breaking sound. So then women and girls can have female skins and not here a guy noise anymore. Problems solved, everyone can be happy.
What is so bad about it? Why change something that's on a game cover?! It's minecraft for gods sake! Not feminismcraft!
If they want a female skin, fine. But they cannot demand all these changes, it simply isn't feasible.
I don't see a problem with playing as a girl in a game, especially when all I see is her arm or whatever she is holding and hear the occasional 'Uh' (lol) when she is hurt...
I agree, I had no problem playing as a girl on mirrors edge. I dont see how it matters. Its just a game.
I think this is a highly reasonable request for a girl to want to play as a girl character. There isn't currently a way to do that in Minecraft on XBox, I hope that this ability will be added in the future. I hope that your daughter continues to enjoy the game, despite this limitation!
Regarding the save game issue, I have the same problem when my son wants to resume a game we started together. He can only do it by using my profile, which I am hesitant to let him do (because he is six, and isn't always terribly responsible with dynamite and lava!!).
Unfortunately, that's a limitation of the way that save games are tied to profile accounts. Hopefully in the future they will make a way to do this, though a new map sharing feature or something!
The save games are tied to gamertags because of xbox's terms of use, when they agree to let 4J to allow map sharing, it'll happen. There's already a demand for it and 4J is well aware.
On the skins, I dont see why anyone would have a problem with the character noises/skin. I don't even really see the skin as having one gender, anyway. If the skin were female by default, I wouldn't have a problem.

As for your spolitscreen issue, I have no idea.

No, you can't make a girl in Minecraft. Why? There's no good reason - it's just not there. No additional bizarre comments required.
There is a mod for the PC version you can get for females. But that's a bit irrelevant....
