Hey guys, working on a mob grinder.. pretty much my whole map is a winter area? uh... i'm trying to get my water flows down in a mob grinder and the water freezes........ any suggestions?
already used around 1k cobble.. do'nt wanna tear it down.. :/
Another option is go to the nether and collect glowstone. Then craft the glowstone dust back into glowstone blocks which you can then put near the the water source block.
He's making a mob grinder. Using light would just screw it up.
Using light has nothing to do with the mob grinder. Putting it in the mob farm spawn area would affect it (mobs spawn 7+ blocks away from a light source) . If the grinder is 24+ spaces from the farm then light on the grinder obviously will have little to no effect on the farm spawn.

Using light has everything to do with it. In the middle of your farm, which needs to be dark, will be a series of canals pushing mobs toward the grinder. If that water freezes, the whole thing no longer works.
My suggestion, see if you could try this
That way the light won't show and your water may not freeze.
Disclaimer: I don't know for sure if this works, but torches keep water from freezing from farther away than that.
Place signs above your water source block, the game will think it's a full block and will stop the freezing. As long as the water source block does have a vertical line of sight with the sky, then you're fine.*doesn't*

Or use a torch.
That actually depends on the design... He could make minor adjustments to make it work in like 5 minutes.
