I've been playing on xbox for a while now... Seen the usual trends for this genre and figured I'd I'd share my take on how to be a good/decent host. You'll never get that empire off the ground being an evil troll... Unless your building a countryside of evil trolls... Either way Here it goes.
1. Build a basic shelter at the original spawn point. You invite people to join a world yet have them them trek through the dark trying to get to everybody. Sure you can build your castle where ever, but leave a simple shelter. Leave a bed so if everyone wants to sleep, new joiners can.
2. Leave some starting tools behind, or materials to make them. I know you got all your armour, and chests filled with goodies. Spare some simple stone tools at the start point, and maybe a couple of loaves of bread. Friends help friends.
3. Use a couple of signs to state the law of the land or places not to build. It'll save you time, and make things clear cut. I only have three; Dont take from player sign houses; Do not build here; No duping(or duping allowed)
4. While there is no currency, everyone barters. Try to keep things consistent.
5. Give names to certain areas. Just like in fps's, screaming, "I need help" is no good if no one knows where you are, or where you died.
Inviting someone to a map is pretty much just like inviting them into your home. It carries the same weight. While these are not the rule of the lands, just some suggestions. Feel free to add or disagree.
