Ok let me start off by saying this will not be for everyone. I am sure I will get flamed for this, I am already prepared lol, but anyway... its not a hack, but its not totally practical for everyone, but it works for me and this is what I do...
So the main thing about playing Minecraft on Xbox that irks me is that I like to play on a persistent world that my friends can come and go in whenever they want and that way we can play on the same world without having to wait for each other to log in.
I have 4 Xbox 360s, one of them is portable, I have it in a GAEMS case (GAEMS is a portable Xbox / PS3 case, you can Google it)
My portable Xbox is set up in my game room in a corner with plenty of ventalation and is set to never turn off. It is also hard wired into my internet and is running Minecraft 24/7 on an Xbox Live account that I do not use for anything else. (You can buy an Xbox live family 4 pack for nearly the same price as 2 Xbox live accounts) So I set up a world and keep it running on my portable Xbox which then acts like a Minecraft server (I dont play on the account at all, its purpose is just to act like a server).
Problems with this system:
Expensive to buy another Xbox just for this purpose. This alone is the biggest problem and will prevent most people from using this option (I travel alot so I have the portable and I bought it for that purpose so it sits unused most of the time, so acting as a Minecraft server just seemed like a good way to use it when I am not traveling.
your friends friends can get into your world and there is potential for griefing. (I think you can block certain people by filtering either your account settings to not allow anyone but friends to log into games you are in, but I'm not sure, havent tried it)
You have to set it up to save the game every so often and if you dont like that then this could be a problem for you. I know a lot of times I like to go back and re load a save because I fell into lava and lost something valuable, but this makes the game more of a challenge too which I like.
I heard a rumor that autosaving messes things up when your in the Nether, I cant confirm, but to be safe, my friends and I do not enter the nether unless I am home and can turn off autosave for that duration.
Even though the Xbox is hooked up, every now and then, my friends still have trouble getting on. I dont know if the world sort of pseudo crashes or whatever, cause the account is still online, but I do move the character around once in a while or restart the Xbox from time to time to make sure it stays stable. I also have a small fan set up to ventalate it well and I use a wired controller on it also for convienience and to keep it from having the controller turn off and it think I am not there.
If you like to play peaceful and your friends like to play with hostile mobs turned on then this could be a problem also... I like to have hostile mobs on at least normal. My wife likes to play on peaceful so I do turn it on peaceful usually when she plays. (no big deal)
Well its not a perfect system, but until (if they even do) they create a solution, this is what works for me so there is a Pro to this whole thing and that is I can play on a persistant server with my friends and not have to wait for them to log on.
Again its not for everyone, but it works if you have the resourses available to you.
Yeah, just seems like a waste of an Xbox 360 to me. That's just my opinion though.
My friends don't really care that we can't play on persistent worlds/servers. When whoever is hosting get's off, we either all jump onto another persons world and keep playing, or we just go to our own singleplayer worlds. Doesn't bother any of us one bit.

Totally understand, I would not suggest anyone buy an Xbox for this purpose alone, but I just happen to have one that I use for travel so it works for this purpose also. Like I said, not practicle for everyone, but its a solution we use and enjoy.
I heard they might be working on a solution for this, but I doubt we will see anything before 1.8. Most of thier effort is put towards getting the game up to par with the PC. I think they need to have some sort of shared cloud worlds or put out a server system like Battlefield has. I'm sure people would pay to put up a server, although Im not one of those people.(can't really afford it)
