You will eventually run out of ores. It would take a long time, but all of the ores in the game a finite reasources. Duping makes them infiniteand allows people to place blocks of ores and mine them, thus boosting their leaderboard rank.
I must have missed the part where you're only allowed to have one world..
Mob Grinders are not dping. That is using a legitimate mechanic of the game to obtain them. Duping is not a legitimate mechanic seeing as how it's a glitch, nothing more.
so exploiting some game mechanics are okay, but others are not? who decides? you?

A glitch is not a mechanic. If there is any confusion over what is a glitch and what is a mechanic, please refer to the other versions of the game. Specifically, the PC version.
The list of features does not include anything saying "put items in dispenser and withdrawal infinite amount after breaking." Not to mention it was repaired in a bug fix. That sort of implies it was a bug (which is another word for glitch). Which implies it is not a feature. Which also implies it is not an official mechanic.
Slippery slope is fun in philosophy, but this is pretty scientific.....
Good job. You've quoted a section that doesn't actually accuse you personally of inventory editing. It's a rhetorical statement that "you" (being any reader) can do such a thing.
Anything else I can explain for you?
Would you like to try again?
lol please keep this strawman argument up. its entertaining. I always enjoy discussions with the holier-than-thou crowd.

Is duping an actual part of the game? No. Is it a glitch? Yes. Even with multiple worlds, you wouldn't be able to keep up with someone who was dupe mining.
The people who make the game decide what is a mechanic and what isn't. Mojang has removed all duping glitches in the PC version jsut like 4J is trying to do with the Xbox version. A glitch is a glitch, not a feature of the game.

The straw man here was invented by you - I've never personally accused any particular person of editing their inventory.
Editing your inventory, however, is a way to receive items outside of the work in game as designed as part of the game. It's really irrelevant to duplicating, but it is another example of acquiring items outside of the actual features of the game.
A simpler version of the point I think you're having trouble with is once again listed below:
Legitimately acquiring items within the game as defined by the parameters of the game is "the rules."
Acquiring items outside of the parameters of the game (such as duplicating, but also including editing) is against "the rules."
Pretty straightforward, ya?
On an abstract, you can say that words related to inventory editing might be your current favorite, but you should also try including the other words.
it kind of is those. it required no modifications to the game of any kind. Do you also refuse to stack fence posts until the update offficially allows for it?

Have you considered you might have it backwards?
Are fence posts that don't stack a glitch? Or are fence posts that DO stack a feature?
To honestly answer that question, no.... I don't normally stack fence posts... in either version.
Legitimately acquiring items within the game as defined by the parameters of the game is "the rules."

where are these rules posted? 4j must have forgotten to send me a copy of the official minecraft rulebook when i got the game.

The rules are in the games coding. Nothing in the code is supposed to allow you to dupe, hence why it's called a glitch. It wasn't meant to be there. It came about randomly.

Once again, those may be your favorite words but you should check the others.
When I used the words "the rules" in quotes, that signifies a loosely defined language that you should interpret yourself. It seems you couldn't.
Games are defined by mechanics (this is simplified, but feel free to argue it). To build you need blocks. To acquire blocks, the game allows you to mine them with tools.
At no point in time during the tutorial, "How to Play" or covered in the wiki is the addition of, "the way to craft and build is to put items in a dispenser and have a friend break it."
So while there may not be a rule book, it's pretty obvious what actions you are supposed to take.

And one of the mechanics of the game allowed you to also make unlimited items. Do you also hate people that use booster carts? that gets fixed later, too, iirc.
I like how you keep trying to question my intelligence, as if I really cared what some schmuck on an internet forum thinks about me.

I'm bored now. Talking to you is like talking to a 4 year old, except I've had far better conversations with 4 year olds.
I'll just wait for the Dupe glitch to be fixed for good then watch the forums flood with people complaining about 4J doing their job.

Official mechanics, designed mechanics and "anything I dub a mechanic" aren't the same thing. To run down that slippery slope again, a mechanic of the Xbox is to read files from a harddrive. A mechanic of Minecraft is to load those files. So should we say that save game alteration is a mechanic? That's explicitly stated to be against the Terms of Service, though, so it's not the best analogy.... But it's just as good (as bad?) of trying to relate duping to legitimate mechanics.
NPC boosters work still. I don't integrate that into my game as I expect it to be fixed at some point. I recognize it isn't a feature and try to avoid being dependent on it.
I like how you keep trying to question my intelligence, as if I really cared what some schmuck on an internet forum thinks about me.
I like how you interpret it as an insult to your intelligence which causes you to become defensive and make statements like, "really caring what some schmuck on the internet forum thinks about you."
I'll just wait for the Dupe glitch to be fixed for good then watch the forums flood with people complaining about 4J doing their job.
Obtaining items outside of the normal band will never be fixed. When the dupe glitch is forgotten then people will just start new threads proselytizing save game mods or some new dupe glitch.
I wonder if we'll get broken pistons that dupe in 1.7.3.....

horrible analogy, please try again. Half the fun of this game is using the games mechanics( intentional or otherwise) to get the desired result. using a one minecart to boost another one isnt an intentional mechanic( said so by notch himself) yet people do it because its easier and more efficient than using booster rails.

oh, so your posts arent dripping with sarcasm? And asking me if Im "having trouble understanding the written word"? yep, not insulting at all
Remember, kids. you can pay for school, but you cant buy class.

Thanks for repeating that the analogy above was terrible. I think I've already said that, though....
Cool - ask him if he thinks duping is easier and more efficient.
Here's another comparison on how awesome glitches are: so mineshafts can overwrite Strongholds in the current PC version. Should we say that's a mechanic and you should just scrap the entire world because the End Portal was overwritten by some mysterious miners? We could make a cool story about how parts of the frame are lost. If this happened to you, would you just say "Oh, you silly mechanics!" and just bugger off without The End?
There's a small tip: if glitches can be considered mechanics.... then why is it that people only want to keep the beneficial ones? People complain their saves corrupt - well, obviously that's a mechanic of the game!
We're again on a stupid slippery slope because you refuse to accept a glitch is not a mechanic or feature. You generally don't issue patches to remove mechanics and features....
oh, so your posts arent dripping with sarcasm? And asking me if Im "having trouble understanding the written word"? yep, not insulting at all
I dunno. Is that the way you interpret them? I can't force you to perceive any of it in any specific way. If I could, we wouldn't be arguing semantics on whether or not something that is clearly a glitch (as beaten into the ground by ... I dunno... everyone including 4J?) is a mechanic or not.....
This is just a crazy guess of mine--correct me if my logic sounds insane here--but maybe because they're benefical?
I refer to my signature. The sentence right after the one you quoted was some real talk. Besides, you misinterpreted the meaning of that. I believe SupaSaru intended that to be read as this: "There's a small tip: if glitches can be considered mechanics.... then why is it that people only want to keep the ones that benefit themselves?"

Retired StaffThis is just a crazy guess of mine--correct me if my logic sounds insane here--but maybe because they're benefical?
Keep yourself up to date with the Minecraft Forum rules!
Lol exactly!
It would be like asking - "If people are happy to keep money they find on the ground, then why don't they purposely drop money also?"
