People started duping. Seeing as it's a glitch, many people consider it cheating, so they voice their opinions that it's cheating. This made the dupers butthurt. The butthurt dupers then voiced their opinions back at the original people who consider it cheating, which caused them to get butthurt. Now we have two groups of butthurt people arguing about the same thing back and forth.
I believe Peter Griffin said it best ladies and gentlemen...
Thank you Peter. You summed up my thoughts exactly.
hahahahahhaa good nice atleast we still have some sane people playing this game
My sister used to love to play Monopoly Deluxe, a pretty decent Windows Monopoly Game about 20 years back.
However, she set the AI so stupid that there was never any doubt she would win every game, every time.
The thing that boggled my mind is that she could be entertained by this. There was no challenge! there was absolutely no chance she could lose. What's the point?
Later I realized that she wasn't LOOKING for a challenge. People have different requirements for their entertainment when it comes to gaming. Some folks just want the affirmation that they are going to win. Some of us want the game to challenge us.
But at the end of the day, a good game can accommodate both types.
Providing you state that you used ... lets call it 'creative mode' when you show it off then I wouldn't mind one bit if it is in your own world and not mine. Though it is a shame it has a negative affect on leader-boards, I only look at friends lists though so that doesn't personally bother me.
how does it so negatively affect the leaderboards? sure you can dupe diamonds to make tools, but if your mining that crazy anyway, you'll pick up more diamonds than you'll use anyway. i duped a bunch of diamond, but havent used any of it since i pick up more than i waste on tools..
Honestly, I'm not sure, as I said before I'm not personally bothered by it. I have just seen a lot of other people who were bothered by it pointing it out, I presumed that if you duped one of the blocks on the leader-boards then it count towards it?
it doesnt. ive duped several stacks of obsidian, but only have 10 that count towards my leaderboard stats. these were mined legitimately when i started my first world, to make a nether portal.
i was duping but the new dupe is not worth my time it worked once out of the ten times i tried and a bunch of wierd things were going on. definitely not worth the time. cannot wait for creative mode.
also just thought of something funny... a minecraft shirt that had a anti duping message hahahahahaha instead of 'doping'
I didn't think this thread could actually get worse....
For the leaderboard people - the block mining counts isn't what duping really breaks. It's the critter-kill counts. You can spend an afternoon in your Iron gear killing pigmen and never catch up to someone with infinitely duped diamond gear and arrows. So for anyone that thinks they're so clever as to inform everyone how silly they are about block counts..... you're looking at the wrong thing.
On a side note, I don't care about critter counts. Leaderboards are a feature of Xbox titles. Leaderboards, since this is an Xbox game, are in Minecraft. If you don't enjoy them - don't look at them, don't speak of them, don't chastise other people about them. Just ignore them.
The duping issue itself is extremely simple - it's a bug, it's gone, deal with it. Creative is in the PC version and the Mobile version. It will be in this version in the 1.8 update. If those options do not suit you, then don't go on the internet to justify your reasoning for duping - that makes no sense.
I have no idea how hard you have to try to ignore the obvious: You want to know why people care how you play (read: dupe) your game? Why do you care how people play (read: don't dupe) their game?
As for the whole "creativity being stifled / your sense of achievement is ruined / I'm more creative than you" topics.... well, all that can die in a fire as obvious trolls. If you seriously want to try to hold up a candle saying you're so much more creative because you duped 4,000 blocks of wool (wool! A renewable resource!) or clay (clay! Works correctly on the PC version!) - well, whatever you can do I can do better with MCEdit. That's using an external tool to play the game - which is kind of obviously "cheating" when you're talking about Survival Multiplayer, but that's pretty much equivalent to using a glitch. Both methods are working outside of the defined scope of the Minecraft game to achieve something other people cannot achieve within the scope of the game itself.
One of the only reasons I participate in these threads is to try to express that the game *is fun and great and amazing and creative and awesome and all the things* without exploiting a software glitch! That's exactly what you're doing when you dupe. It's no different than abusing any other bug in any other game even if you perceive it is.

I love being a devils advocate. Everyone saying the leaderbaords aren't effected can just shut the hell up. Here is how they are effected.
Player A finds Iron Ore. Player B takes Iron Ore and dupes it into multiple stacks. Player B then places the Iron Ore over and over allowing Player A to mine it. That would boost someones leaderboard rank quite fast.
That counts against the leaderboard and there are people who would do that to boost themselves. This same thing can be done with Diamonds and Gold. So do not say it doesn't affect the leaderboard. This is the one and only reason I dislike the duping glitch. It can and does affect the legit players who play the game for the leaderboards. If your reason for not caring about the leaderboards is because you think they're pointless so you disregard them, you're no better than the people screaming at you for "cheating".

And this.
When I was playing Battlefield, I would often get pissed off when I got killed, because it was screwing up my K:D ratio.
Then one day I had an epiphany: I am a recreational gamer. I'm no slouch, but I'm nowhere CLOSE to the best there is. That's the day I realized that worrying about my position on some ranking system was beyond pointless, and just adding undue stress to my life.
In fact, it made me realize I was afraid to really "muck in" and play the game properly because I was afraid of my precious K:D ratio getting sullied.
So I just said screw it, forgot all about it, and just played the game to have fun. I found not only was the game much more pleasurable, my teammates liked me a whole lot better, now that I was playing for the team, not just myself.

lolol. have you never mined? if you do it right, you'll never run out of resources to build tools, well until you mine out the entire world, i guess. no duping necessary.
And about duping arrows. i guess mob grinders are cheating too, then?
And about duping arrows. i guess mob grinders are cheating too, then?
While I commend that slippery slope argument (which I've used before) it's not all that relevant.
There is a suggested proof of work. It's easy to follow ->
If you have arrows, that means you did work to get arrows. Even if that work was creating a large mob farm to get them.
Starting the game, editing items into your inventory and duping them suggests.... well, that doesn't really suggest you did much work....
In my opinion, the commendable things in Minecraft include problem solving. You want 4,000 piece of blue wool. Here are some options you could follow to get it:
- Spend 5 minutes duping them. You've learned how to dupe. Yay (sarcasm?).
- Inventory hack it. Yay, you've learned how to break your Xbox TOS.
- Spend time chasing down sheep and dyeing it with Lapis. Find out it's not the most efficient, so instead build a large peaceful mob spawner. Now you've run out of Lapis and need an efficient way to go mine it. Mining has it's own dangers, so you'll need to solve other problems along the way.
- Play a version that actually has Creative mode.
Only one of these options offer a proof of work that adheres to the game itself.
lol now im editing items into my inventory, huh? why would i dupe anything if i had an inventory editor?
simple mob grinders require very little effort to make, and once you have it set up, it requires zero work to continue getting items.
Who said you were modifying saves? Are you asking me if you are? I don't know.
Are you having trouble understanding the written word?
Here's a simpler version:
You could do very little actual playing of the Minecraft game to accomplish the same thing.
In order to create a mechanism like a mob spawner requires you to have done work to collect the blocks and build it. Or build it out of the established process (mine -> craft, like the title!) with outside tools like duping, MCEdit or save game editing.
Did you follow that time or do we need to do it again?
Because this totally defeats the purpose of Minecraft. Theres many solutions to this problem. There are a few Minecraft knockoffs on the XBL indie marketplace like Total Miner, none come close to Minecraft however. They provide much easier ways to getting infinite stuff. Also, buy the PC version that has a lot more options and a creative mode, not to mention mods for infinite items in survival.
lolol. have you never mined? if you do it right, you'll never run out of resources to build tools, well until you mine out the entire world, i guess. no duping necessary.

You will eventually run out of ores. It would take a long time, but all of the ores in the game a finite reasources. Duping makes them infiniteand allows people to place blocks of ores and mine them, thus boosting their leaderboard rank.
Mob Grinders are not dping. That is using a legitimate mechanic of the game to obtain them. Duping is not a legitimate mechanic seeing as how it's a glitch, nothing more.
Good job. You've quoted a section that doesn't actually accuse you personally of inventory editing. It's a rhetorical statement that "you" (being any reader) can do such a thing.
Anything else I can explain for you?
Would you like to try again?
