Hey, just wondered if someone could give a short do/don't for making dark rooms spawn mobs.
I've made one rather large one (30x30 or higher) in the past that works ok. Now I'm working on a second one, its roughly 18x20(x3 high) but simply refuses to spawn anything whatsoever.
-there's no lights, at all. Rooms even completely sealed off.
-I've lit up open areas nearby so that mobs should be more likely to spawn inside the room.
I'm assuming I have to make it even bigger, but I coulda sworn I read somewhere that dark rooms have to be only 17x17?
Are you 24 blocks away from it but within 128 blocks of it?
Mobs won't spawn within 24 blocks or outside of 128 blocks of a player.
In this version, it only really needs to be 2 high. For 1.6.6, I make my spawn traps 20x20x2 - you'll need 20x20x3 if you want to use slabs to prevent spiders.
24 blocks away? Blasphemy, a creeper spawned in front of me,
Awkward times. He didn't even explode...
So, I captured him as my pet!
He is now in a glass container where he will remain until pistons are released, then, I will release him Into a larger container outside at night and burn him, sending a dark message to all creepers who wish to tangle with me.
thanks for lots of response guys! Lots of useful stuff here. Meanwhile, I dug out my room to be 24x24, and that seemed to do the trick. Also, the distance from the player seems to play a role(except this one creeper that spawned in my face in a relatively lit are while digging!) as they tend to spawn in the rear end of the room (got a viiewing room and they always spawn in the far end)
moreover, I can add that this room will be a skeleton-kills-creeper room, which turned out more complicated than I Thought as skeletons apparently need room above their heads to shoot. . .
Sadly, the largest tree I have found is barely big enough for a tree house. When shears come out, I'll remake this.
That video is from the PC version - those jungle trees can get huge.
If you want to create your own tree structure, just place dirt on top of something. Another tree, a stack of blocks, whatever. Plant a sapling and bonemeal it. Repeat.
If you're still wanting to hop into someones world to see one you're more then welcome to shoot me a request. I've just got the generic above ground with 4 8x8x2 pad setups fully enclosed
I made a modified version of the compact mob trap in my world, here's a pic of the outside of it:
It has three levels for aggressive mobs and one layer at the top for passive mobs. I'm not convinced about the passive mob level at this stage, but the aggressive ones work great. There is a 25 block drop to the bottom, which is surrounded by glass. I surrounded it because I found that skeletons had time to fire arrows at me while they fell. Unfortunately the interior screen shots I took came out too dark, but it's the old 4x8x8 with a 3 block wide water channel between each.
I'd be happy to show you around if you want a look and to see it in action, just shoot me a message on Live.
With update here, we can pimp our mob traps to the next level!
The new light can be rather troublesome though (albeit pretty), as the light levels tend to linger after a torch is removed -even after closing the game and reloading t. Anyone got a solution to this?
