I noticed one of the fixes in the recent update was monsters spawning in houses when they shouldn't. At the time of the update, everyone in our server had a safe house. Fast forward to post update, and now the problem is almost game ruining. None of us can sleep anymore in the same houses that were fine before the update.
I've noticed it keeps happening too. Of all the bugs this is the only one I'm bothered by, since it gets tedious killing a creature almost every time I try to sleep. And this is just singleplayer, I can't imagine how you deal with it with several people.
I'm sure they are aware of the problem and will fix it for the 1.7.3 update in a few weeks or so.
Never have this problem in single and splitscreen even with the house semi-open (roof not build).
Same here. Can almost bet on it if in multi and a new person comes in. Interestingly, if I'm the only player in that structure, no spawn. Play alone, no spawn. Certainly not fixed.
Out of interest are you using Double doors on your structures or can you provide the direction the Door is facing? (Assuming The top of the map is North)

I've been having this problem as well. Can't remember which way my doors are facing but all my houses have double doors. I'll take a look what way they are facing next time I play.
Double doors will allow a monster to enter the house during the night.
This has to do with the placing of doors and one being considered "open".

That's kind of silly isn't it? So I can't use double doors anymore, or multiple doors seeing as some people are having these issues when doors are not next to each other but in the same house? bummer
Steve, just to check is this something you will fix? I get the slight impression that you are saying that it is just how it is, but always so hard to tell in text
It's not something we can fix, however changes were made in 1.8 to stop the player sleeping with mobs nearby that fixes this issue.

I suppose a quick fix, until the bug has been sorted, is to stick a couple of blocks of dirt in front of a door at night.
That has never worked for me. Once I tried blocking all the doors and windows with dirt and then cobblestone. Still got woken up with a monster attacking me.
There seems to be a whole host of issues causing monsters to spawn on top of people when they try to sleep. Double doors, beds next to walls, holes under your floor. The list continues to be added to.
Like I was ranting before in another post, in a game like this, there simply must be a situation where we know we are 100% safe from monster spawns. Otherwise, a Creeper can pop up next to us while we are going through a chest, and take out half the items we worked hard to accumulate.
That one was very hard to swallow for me, because I still can't figure out how he spawned.
I've tried to make sure that nothing is more than four squares away from a torch or glowstone. This is excessive by the supposed game mechanics (8 or up lighting means you should be good), but its also hard to do in very large rooms unless you put torches on the floor (which looks DAMN tacky) and put glowstone tiles on the floor (which makes it look like the beginning of the "Billie Jean" video). So far this seems to have stopped them.
All I can figure is that any square less than 10 lighting has the possiblity of spawning a creeper, skeleton and a zombie. The last two are nuisances, but the first can really ruin your day if its in the inner sanctum of your intricately-built headquarters.
Monsters waking me up hasn't happened to me since I moved my bed from the wall, both before and after the bug fix. One interesting thing to note is before I moved my bed, I was never woken by creepers, only by zombies and skeletons. I have never played multi-player or split-screen, because I lack friends who aren't dumb and think minecraft is cool
This may sound silly, but is there any chance that they're coming up from underground? I litteraly have a 2x2 flaming moat around my home that should be impossible for them to cross let alone get into my house. I haven't played enough on non peaceful since the patch to tell if they've stopped or not. Whats funny though was after patch I started a new world and created a skyscrapper using a shear cliff and after building maybe a 4 block high wall I didn't have any problems sleeping. Course the next day I had a creeper come in through the non existing room, but that was during the day.
yeah but that's no good. Half the time I get attacked at night there's no mobs around when I sleep. I.e have got to the bed just as night has come and it's well lit.
i want a anti monster machine, monster comes, a hand comes from top of building, takes the monster, throws him or kills him. best idea i say
This has never happened to me, maybe because my house is above ground by 40 blocks, otherwise if the mobs keep spawing I suggest making a sky house 20+ or higher
Im having the same problems
I created a new world in large biomes in stead of default and now in the middle of the day i come back from mining and i freeze with two creepers a sniper and about 5 zombies staring at me. Looks like ive got myself a Mexican standoff.
I defeat all but one creeper which blows my roof off. Easily fixable doesnt matter. 35 minutes later im still in my house and I enter the bathroom and a zombies COMES OUT OF THE TOLIET AND CHEWS MY FACE OFF.
Just my luck.
I was working once of a couple of hours making modifications to my house and i slept and right as I hit the bed a zombie is right infront of me watching me sleep. I wake up and he doesn't attack me. We stare for a while and i slowly inch away. He follows me. I seem to have a new pet! Not the preffered specimen but who cares! I think Notch is screwing with my mind and laughing at me. This zombie has followed me around since that day. It can be peaceful, easy, normal or hard yet he doesn't attack. My house i built on top of a large biome with my mining industry beneath it. I made the house out of dirt, cobblestone, and oak planks. The floor is dirt with a trapdoor leading down to the ground with oak stairs. Two trapdoors I always keep shut unless im entering or leaving. I come back from mining and there is a skeleton trying to shoot me through the trapdoor. Failure. The outer walls are made of cobblestone and the inner walls are made from oak planks. The roof has a fence around it but the just traps the zombies or skeletons for frying time after I sleep. The creepers are getting to be a pain though. Im ambling around my house when part of the roof detonates spilling in random monsters. Getting kind of old. Im thinkin about scrapping my house and trying somewhere else. By the way the fate of my pet zombie ended with him falling in some lava, if you were wondering.

How large is it. If your house is too large they can spawn perhaps. Try reducing it into seperate rooms.
Otherwise it could just be that it's too dark in your house, try adding more torches or glowstone to brighten things up.
